There could be any number of issues, James, that are causing your problem, and we are all here to help, even though we don't work for Cyberlink.

I am guessing off of the top of my head that PD9 is too much software for your older laptop. If you want, you can attach a dxdiag file (instructions in a sticky thread at the top of page 1 of this forum).
Start a new post and attach your files. The real pros here will have a look and tell you whether your computer can handle PD9. It is a very resource-intensive application, much more so than PD8.
