How to get video to return to main menu?

I would like to have the video return to the main DVD menu after playing any selected chapter so as to give the viewer the ability to select another chapter to watch rather than just playing the entire video, or playing from the selected chapter to the end.

I have selected what I thought was the proper setting from the select disc playback mode icon. I have selected the "play the selected title only" button. I have set up the chapters in the edit mode. However, at the end of the chapter, the video keeps playing the next chapter without going back to the DVD menu.

After reading a number of posts it appears that this is how PD8 was designed to work, however, there are some posts that have stated that they got what I want to do to work but never specified how they did it.

Does anyone have a step-by-step method to accomplish what I want to do?

Thanks.

That is the correct selection.

Did you start playing the video from the main menu "Play" or did you switch to the Scenes menu and select Chapter 1.

If you choose the Play in the main menu, that is supposed to play all of the videos without returning to the menu.

The Play one chapter and return to the menu is supposed to happen in the Scenes menu.

It works that way for me in the preview.

When I select Play, it does play the entire video. That is fine.

When I select Scenes, I see the 3 chapters (scenes) that I created. If I select Scene 2 for example, it will play the 2nd then immediately follow playing the 3rd chapter and does not return to the menu until the completion of the 3rd chapter.

I want to be able to play the 2nd chapter then return to the menu for the viewer's choice to play the 3rd chapter, the 1st chapter or re-play the 2nd chapter, or whatever they want.

Thanks.

Have a look at this, I think it pretty much explains it all.

Pay attention to the difference between "Chapter" and "Title", CL's definition may not match yours

So, if I understand correctly, in order to make it work the way I want it to, I have to divide up my video into smaller parts and save each part as a project. Then merge (or add?) the projects into a large project where the parts will be seen as titles instead of chapters and unless I want those smaller parts to have chapters within, not use chapters at all. Is that right?

If so, then will PD see these titles as separate "scenes" to be included in the DVD menu? Or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks.

You don't make a larger project per say, you simply do it in the Create Disc with the "Import PowerDirector projects" feature, see attached pic, red circle. Each project imported is a seperate "Title", each "Title" can have multiple "Chapters".

So, in your case you want 3 pds files, one pds file for each chapter as you called it, "Titles" per PD. The root menu "SCENES" button would show the 3 pds files, "Titles" (chapters for you). Then use the "Play selected title only" feature.

Download the pic in the referenced post if you didn't, I believe it depects "Titles" and "Chapters" rather clearly and what the CL menu system does.

OK. I created 4 separate projects (pds files) which contained my 4 "chapters". I went to Create Disk and imported the titles, set it to play only the selected titles and return to the menu when done and IT WORKED!

I guess it was a definitional thing, setting up chapters in PD is different than what I thought (and what I was used to in a different editing program).

However, I would like to make a suggestion that to make this easier, there should be a way to create different titles within the Edit portion of the program. It was quite a lot of work to break up the original movie into 4 different titles then save them separately and import them into the Create Disk part of the program. It would have been unbearable if I had any more titles to work with.

Why not have a way to designate a separate Title as well as Chapters within the Edit module?

Thanks.
