[Problem] Merging different footages from different .pds files into one .pds in PowerDirector365

Hi everyone,

This is the very first time for me to edit video, and I've been starting to edit football highlight video using PowerDirector 365 for only a week or two. There're some problems that make me feel really frustrated and I'd like to ask for all your help.

Here is the problem I've encountered:
I've 2 full football matches (90 minutes) downloaded, and dragged into 2 new .pds files respectively. Let's state the name of the matches are game A and game B respectively.

I'd like to make a single video called "funny moments" and use footages from the 2 videos.
For game A, I'd like to use the footage [5' 00" to 5' 10" and 8' 00" to 8' 10"]; and
for game B, I'd like to use footage [3' 10" to 3' 20' and 6 10" to 6' 20"].

What I've done is that, after I cut out the footage in game A and B respectively, I've saved all of them and closed all of them.
Next, I opened game B .pds file, copied footage [3' 10" to 3' 20' and 6 10" to 6' 20"], saved game B .pds file and closed it.
Then, I open the game A .pds file and paste those copied footages from game B .pds file into game A .pds file, after 8' 10" (game A), and saved game A. pds file.

However, when I checked game A .pds file for preview, I found that the content and the timeline of the footages I copied from game B to game A has changed, meaning that in game A .pds file, it never shows the same footage as in game B .pds file.

What have I done wrong?
- Is it because I didn't clicked "yes" when powerdirector asked me "would you like to merge your project's media library files with the current media files in the library? Should I click "yes" or "no" when I opened a new .pdf file?, OR
- Is copy and paste not the right method to merge different footages from different videos into one single .pds file?

Please help:)
Many thanks!!!

Hi,
Editors have their own workflows to achieve this, so there are several ways to get to your objective. Personally, as the saying goes "I wouldn't start from here....."

The most useful and standard tool to use is the pre-cut tool
https://help.cyberlink.com/stat/help/powerdirector/21/win/enu/05_04_01_precutting_video.html?q=precut
https://help.cyberlink.com/stat/help/powerdirector/21/win/enu/08_02_01_trimming_a_video_clip.html

Another method might be to have a game on each of 2 tracks and use clip markers to mark your segments, then remove the unwanted and arrange the wanted into your final timeline.
https://help.cyberlink.com/stat/help/powerdirector/21/win/enu/03_06_01_timeline_view.html?q=timeline+markers

You will need to Enable/Disable each track in the Track Manager column to work on it
https://help.cyberlink.com/stat/help/powerdirector/21/win/enu/03_06_01_timeline_view.html?q=enable+track

Other folk do a lot of this type of editing and will have their own preferred way of working!

Cheers

Thank you for your answer.

May I know can I use the "copy and paste" method as I said previously?

And the real problem is that, there will be more than 2 videos. If I import too much videos, PowerDirector365 will be overloaded...

It might help if you attach some pictures of your timeline of gamea.pds and gameb.pds so one can see how complex it is. But yes, copying and pasting two discontinuous chunks of video from gameb.pds into gamea.pds timeline should work fine. Since they are discontinuous chunks, you will have gap in the middle when pasted in gamea.pds.

No, it has nothing to do with how you answered the merge project question. That simply populates the media library.
