Hi John,
I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I think the Cinema mode is useless. I was only refering to my situation---it isn't helpful to me. My displays are direct-view LCD screens and I have no trouble viewing the controls in the Classic mode and prefer them because they have more features. But CyberLink obviously needs to fix it for its customers that do use it. And I think we've demonstrated that it is broken.
My entertainment system (i.e. "HTPC") is used for much more than watching movies. It has two displays with a total desktop size of 3840 x 1200 pixels. They are calibrated wide-gamut displays (I used to teach Photoshop to media photographers). One display is used to view movies (via blu-ray), HDTV (via a FusionHDTV7 dual express tuner in the PC) or photo/video editing. The other display is used for web browsing and software development (I develop software for the audio and photography industries) that sometimes needs to be tested on the system. When my work doesn't demand my full attention, I'll often have a movie or HDTV on while I'm working.
This is why a remote control is a secondary input device for my system. My main input devices are wireless RF keyboards and mice from Logitech. Plus I also have a Wacom tablet.
My "home theater" is really my audio lab which is an LEDE (live-end, dead-end) acoustic space like you'll find in a pro recording studio. However it was also designed with video in mind and is carefully designed to avoid color and lighting problems.
While I think my system is rather uncommon, I also believe that most users of PowerDVD use their computers as more than a dedicated HTPC and I don't think that very many of them are using the Cinema mode. The lack of posts about the Cinema-mode audio problems supports this. But, again, CyberLink needs to fix it and the best way (in my view) is to begin by combining the Classic and Cinema UIs into a single program. They would be nothing more than shells to contain the UI controls and displays.
Kind regards, David
