Your file has 4 audio channels, PD21 can not handle this. I don't know the camera source of the footage, these channels should probably be mixed to provide some form of stereo perhaps. In HandBrake, select channel 2 during the conversion, pic attached. It will still be mono but see if this is good enough for your PD21 use.

Jeff

Jeff, thank you so much! It worked perfectly.

Probably better results if you attach the original file. This file has mono audio out of a middle channel which is not too common for most camera video files.
Channel(s) : 1 channel
Channel layout : M

So extra work would need to be done if that's truly the only audio channel on the original file, or it's just the channel you converted with HandBrake.

Jeff

Here is the original file.

Probably a 99.99% chance it will work in PD21 unless you've got other computer issues. If the .01%, ask you to use the attachments button to attach a file that does not play correctly so the file details can be seen and forum contributors can try and replicate the issue in PD21 to see if a file issue, your computer issue, or to offer other possible workarounds.

Jeff

It did not work in PowerDirector. I am attaching the edited file. I can also add to the chain the original, as well as a clip that was recorded in the same session with the same camera that is working in PD.

MP4 is just a container, it can have various video and audio formats. Yours simply appears incompatible with PD but that does not mean somethings wrong with it. HandBrake is a very good conversion utility that can handle a wide range of inputs that PD21 cannot. Just convert to a mp4 file that has constant fps with H.264 video, AAC audio.

Jeff

What would you suggest if once I've made that conversion, I can no longer hear the audio in the file that HandBrake produced?

Probably not, I'd convert with HandBrake or similar utility to same video resolution, constant fps and see how these converted files work with PD21.

Jeff

What would you convert it to?
I am running into an audio issue that I believe is mp4 file based, and looking for any help.

I am editing together multiple video clips recorded with the same camera. When the clips are loaded as files into PowerDirector 365, some of them play with audio, and some do not. However, when I open the files outside of PD with Windows Media Player, I can hear the sound no problem.

I know that sound is working on my computer and working fine within PowerDirector, so this is not some unchecked box somewhere or some mute button I don't realize is turned on. I can lay two clips side by side in PD and hear the sound in one but not the other, even though I know they both have audio.

I have even tried creating copies of the files and uploading the new ones into PD and still cannot hear the sound.

The sound does not appear once I produce the video either, as I have seen some suggest in other posts.

Is there anything that could be fundamentally wrong with the files?
