PD21 can import many video cameras that have basic recording approach (H.264, H.265), it becomes very limited with high end formats like ProRes, MXF . . . . and others, while other NLE are more accommodating. Keep in mind, MXF is just a video file wrapper, it can utilize many different video codecs so it's usually not enough info to imply just a MXF file as it really depends what's been used inside it. Hence PD21's strict supported note of MXF (8bit 4:2:0 AVC/XAVC).
You can attach a small recording and see what users can come up with for importing.

Thank you for all your replies! I will probably use my older computer for the projects that I have to shoot with my Canon. This has been very informative, and I'm not upset any more with PD, since I didn't know about all the implications of MXF files. Have a great 4th of July!

PD21's MXF import only supports a very narrow class of video, just 8 bit, 4:2:0 AVC (H.264) codec. Your specifics show 8 bit, 4:2:0 chromo sampling but with XDCAM HD 35 codec. I think you'll have to convert that into a suitable format for PD21 to handle.
Was this video processed with Canon XF Utility?
Jeff
No, I just imported the file from my flash card with a Sunpak high-speed card reader, then tried to import into Power Director. All my files, from Canon, Sony and Panasonic video cameras, have always imported perfectly into Adobe Premier, every version of that. It's really amazing that PD doesn't have the same capabilities. I'm 66 and have gone through so many format changes and editing hardware and software changes, but this one is totally different. Thanks for your very helpful information, though. I thought I was doing something wrong!! I wanted to use PD because the Adobe Premier now won't work on a computer that connects to the internet, trying to force me to subscribe to their monthly cloud system. What a rip-off for us older videographers.

Only 8 bit 4:2:0 AVC, you might use MediaInfo (https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfoOnline) and post the full text output file for the details for your current camera settings as that camera is capable of 4:2:2 which would not be supported.

Here it is - never saw this before - thanks! But the only thing close to what you mentioned is the chroma subsampling at 4:2:0. Is this what you were referring to?

I have Power Director 21.0.2902.0 and was under the impression it would recognize these files from my Canon cameras, but keep getting the 'Won't import' message. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
