I used HandBrake to convert a clip to H.265 MP4 video and AAC audio. This works, the audito track now appears in the timeline and can be heard. However the audio quality is down from the MPEG it originated with - might need to paly around a bit.
I've also found the dashcams can record in H.264, so I am giving this a go. It occupies more space on the SD card, but not so much it's not an option.

My guess of multiple audio streams was wrong, however, you have MPEG Audio which used to be supported but was decommissioned. My previous comment on using HandBrake is still valid to create a MP4 with compatible audio (AAC for instance). I'd convert a file with HandBrake and see if PD works fine with the converted file.

Can you post the MediaInfo on the clip and that would also indicate if the file has more than one audio track? PDR has difficulty handling most multiple audio tracks format.

I'm not sure what you mean by MediaInfo but I think you might mean the clip properties?
As below, there is no audio info for the clip. But it has audio when i play it in preview, or indeed another video player program.
You might be on to something there with PDR being unable to deal with multi track formats - these video clips I'm having trouble with come from a dual-channel dashcam, where there are 2 video channels and they share an audio channel.
I have not tried a H265 HEVC clip from a single channel camera yet.

Hi guys, I just joined having experienced an issue which I cannot find anything on.
When i import a H.265 file, it will play video and audio in preview ok, but when dropped into a track on the timeline, there is no audio track.
And the audio is gone completely, not just a blank track.
This only seems to be with H.265 clips.
H.264 and some other file format types are ok, they have audio tracks on the timeline ok.
Anyone else encountered this issue, maybe even know of a fix?
