All,

thanks for everyone's assistance. I downloaded the vlc player and i do agree there are no differences in gamma of the original gopro vs the pd16 rendered file. On the vlc player, the blacks on both clips already looked crushed. Yes I agree it looks like it depends on what media player you are using to watch this on. I am on windows 10 and using the default movies & TV app. I guess i'll just have to live with it and brighten it up in post when i upload to youtube. I provided a screenshot below to show what I'm talking about. The left is the original gopro clip playing on windows 10 movies & Tv app vs the pd16 rendered clip on the right playing on vlc player. Also i provided screenshots from youtube.
Hi Everyone,

After analyzing Tony's rendered files I saw no difference in the 1080p clip. The other clips were just a tad darker. using the media info app confirmed that the 1080p rendered file kept the full range output just like the original gopro clip. I was able to replicate this using the svrt function and it kept the same color range intact. So i concluded that on the 1080p clip, Tony had also rendered it using svrt. So what im seeing is that gopro video files uses the full color range of 0-255. Using PD16 hardware acceleration to render the clip forces it to use the limited range color range of 16-235. Different gamma values are used for black. To get the PD16 sRGB rendered clips to have the same look as the orginal gopro clip, I used media player classic and change the color range from 0-255 to 16-235 and with that I saw no difference. So to conclude I will be using svrt function going forward to render my clips..

GH010128 is gopro video clip unedited
pd16_GH010128 is rendered in powerdirector 1080p/60 without any enhancements

I also uploaded both files to my youtube channel.

thanks
hi tony,

thanks for replying..I have power director 16, windows 10 machine lastest version, nvidia 1070 gpu, and gopro 6 black. What im seeing is that as soon as i import the gopro video in and watch it on the preview sceen, the gamma has shifted to make the video look really dark. This happens on all video resolutions from the grpro from 1080 to 4k. I dont even have to render it yet. I tried other videos from my canon camcorder and it doesnt exhibit this issue. thinking this has to do with powerdirector not recognizing gopro full range or limited range video or codec issues? i attached screen shot below of what im talking about..
hi guys i have powerdirector and i cant seem to figure out why my gopro videos renders come out darker than the original. this leads to lots of crused blacks in shadow areas of the video. It seems as if powerdirector converts it to a limited range and darkens up the video after it renders. Is there any way to change this to full range video. Need advice..thanks
