One cause for not being able to "Enable hardware encoding" checkbox for me was because I had used another application, which very likely kind of reserved the feature from my graphics cars. Once I quit the other application and restarted Powerdirector, I had the feature enabled (again). I was getting pretty frustrated because I felt the feature was available randomly regardless of any settings.
