I tried making an MPEG-2 file out of an avi in Pinnacle Studio 15 and importing into PD14. Still no joy, but closer. Detected 17 out of 21 scenes. Still a pain to find the other 4 scenes, scrubbing in that small Scene Window. I wouldn't want to do it on a long avi.

BTW: That is not true on my PS15. In the Capture Tab. I have a choice of No Scenes detection, Detect Scenes by Timecode, or Detect Scenes by lighting/contast changes before capturing.

There is no capturing going on at this point. I open and avi from my hard drive and it opens in scenes. I originally captured as Scenes by Timecode, then outputted an avi. Do I understand that I can open an avi in Studio15, drag all the scenes to the timeling, then output as MPEG, then import that to PD14 and it will be in or detectable as scenes?

I saw that page, but once again, it is not in the Library Panel. I would have to play the whole avi in order to know which scenes PD14 did not detect. BTW, it does detect a lot of scenes when set on timecode, it just doesn't do it properly. I guess I'll have to continue to use Studio on these files. I was hoping for something better. And Yes, I am detecting by timecode.

I don't think you understand what I am trying to do. I imported video from several sources into another program and saved it all into an avi file for storage purposes. When I import the avi file into PD14, I want to break into the original scenes, as identified by timecode, in order to edit.
PD14 breaks the avi file into a lot more scenes than I originally imported. i.e. I have 1 camera run that PD14 has divided into 5 scenes. I want to combine them back into the original camera run in the library. It's a pain because PD14 is so inaccurate in detecting the scenes, but I don't want to have to put all the scenes into the timeline before combining.

There is a "Combine" option for clips on the timeline. What I want to do is combine scenes in the library area. I really wish it did a better job of detecting scenes.

I had to rebuild my SmartSound library after uninstalling Quick Time, then it worked as Tony said.

I have a number of avi files that I have copied to hard drives from various camcorders. I find that PD14 doesn't do a good job of detecting scenes even when using timecodes. Is there any way to combine scenes in the library?
