Thanks for the reply. Yes I do have quicktime and it played the file fine.
Since re-installing / upgrading the problem has gone away.
I think it actually was a problem with the program not 'activating' properly when I put in my CD key, as doing so again via the 'offline' activation process suddenly allowed PD12 to then import the files with no error.
It seems to be working flawlessly now.
Thanks again.

Hmmm - reinstall gave a different error initially
Something like "media file cant be imported because some parts of PowerDirector are not activated"
By pretending I didn't have an internet connection it generated a code to use on the Cyberlink website which in turn generated another code to paste back into PD12 again and viola, it now seems to load the files fine.
Now I will upgrade again and see if that ruins anything but I reckon I am all good now.
Cheers

and the error message.
I forgot to mention that after initially failing to import these files I downloaded and installed:
- K-lite Codec Pack 10.1.5 Standard and then upgraded it to 10.1.7 Standard
Rebooted machine but it made no difference to the problem.
NB - Videos played in Lightroom and other players before and after the K-lite codec package install.
Cheers

Hi guys,
I couldn't seem to find anyone else with these issues when searching the forums.
Hopefully I can provide some info to try and get it fixed. I am a total video editing noob and am in the process of trying to work on my nephew's wedding videos.
1. Operating System - Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
2/3. PowerDirector Version Build - PowerDirector Ultimate 12.0.2230.0 / SR number VDE131028-01 freshly downloaded and installed / registered / updated yesterday.
4. Video source being imported - Canon 6D video file using 1920x1080 25fps High comp (IPB). Sample attached
5. Problem - When trying to add these video files to the PD12 Media Room it completely fails and gives an error message stating "an error occured while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content, or for another reason. Try contacting your video provider for a different video format." Attached as no 3.
Video files import fine into Lightroom4 and play in this and all other video players on the system (MPC-HC, Quicktime, Windows Media Player 11)
I tried exporting the file from Lightroom as a MP4 but this also would not import into PD12.
6. Anti-virus package -
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security version: 12.0.104.000
Vsmon version: 12.0.104.000
Driver version: 12.0.102.000
Antivirus engine version: 8.3.2.4
Antivirus signature DAT file version: 1132629632
AntiSpam version: 6.3.1.4973
ZoneAlarm Browser Security: 1.5.396.0
ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Scanner: 1.2.104.0
7. Installed Codecs - I am really not sure how to tell this. I looked for a PowerDirector readme.html file in the intalled folders but couldn't see anything
I did manage to get the Windows Media Player codecs if that is in anyway useful (noob here sorry)

8. Other video editing software - only Windows movie maker that was installed with Windows7
9. - 11. seem to relate to other issues beyong the problem I am having
12. DxDiag attached
I am going to try an unistall / reinstall and see how that goes too.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
Cheers
