I'm familiar with editing, but I'll have to try this. I just don't want other clips on the same plane to move forward or back if I delete a portion of a clip because obviously that screws up the timing when I get to that part. I'll try this and get back to you, but yes, that was essentially what I was about.
Thank you, I'll update later.

Hi,
I unfortunately have to deal with editing for the time being on a less than adequate pc. It runs the software fine, but when editing 1080 I end up with a produced video having a few cuts always out of sync (despite everything playing fine while editing). I know why this happens, but my question is this:
When I go in to reedit the problem areas, it affects the rest of the time line. How can I edit a clip in the middle without it affecting the rest?
To further explain; Let's say I need to shorten a video clip a half a second so it matches up with an audio point, but I don't want the following video clip on that same timeline to move forward. How do I edit so it only affects that clip and not everything? I fix one thing and ruin everything else.
It would help tremendously to figure this out until I can afford to upgrade my system.
Thank you.

Thanks for the assistance, but apparently, I don't even have a restore point, so I can't, it won't let me.
Cyberlink got back to me with this long drawn out process...
I understand that you are using PowerDirector 9 Ultra and the software is not running.
In response to your issue please follow the steps given below to resolve the issue.
Before following the suggestions given below please make sure that you have the latest VGA and sound card drivers. Please contact your vendor or visit the manufacturer's website for the latest updates.
Please follow the steps mentioned below to resolve the issue:
1) Empty the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. Then empty Recycle Bin.
2) Defragment your harddrive. DVD video files are very large and can quickly fill your harddrive to capacity. A fragmented harddrive can cause problems during DVD burning/editing. Make sure to defragment your drive(s) regularly.
3) Reset your display settings, screen area to 1024*768, color depth to 32 bit and monitor refresh rate to 60 HZ.
4) To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications including virus scans, screen saver and instant messaging software before you launch PowerDirector.
5) Increase Virtual memory :
1. Right click on "MyComputer"
2. Select Properties -> Advance
3. Click on "settings" under Performance.
4. Select "Advance"
5. Click on "change" under Virtual memory.
6. Select "Custom" and enter initial value as "1024" and Max value as "2048".
NOTE: If your existing settings are higher than recommended then leave them as before.
6) Please check whether the drive where you have insalled PowerDirector software has enough space on it. At least 25 GB of free space is required and recommended while editing a DVD.
Now, try to again to edit a video.
If issue persists then Start Windows in Selective Startup mode.
a. Click on Start.
b. Click on Run.
c. Type msconfig and click on OK.
d. A System Configuration Utility window will come up.
e. On General tab, select Selective Startup.
f. Uncheck "Load Startup Items".
g. Click on Apply.
h. Click on OK.
i. Click on Close.
j. It will ask you to restart your computer. Click on "Restart".
which I tried to follow step by step.... to me it was extraordinarily confusing!!! and when I finished everything... it still didn't work.
Nothing should be this complicated!
I just want to do some editing, not re-engineer my laptop!
Sigh... I'm so upset over this!

Thanks for the info, though I really, really hope I don't have to do a system restore, that's ridiculous if that's what's necessary!
The last time I uninstalled yesterday, I made sure to uninstall all components and I used ccleaner afterwards as well. If I must do this a 4th time, I'll try Revo per your suggestion.
Thanks.

Power Director 9 Ultra crashes before it even opens.
I just reinstalled my power director 9 ultra thrice, each time attempting something new that I've read online to help, but nothing works. I've restarted my laptop (the same one I used to run this exact same software on a few months ago).
As soon as it finishes the install and I put in my product key... as it begins to run, I get this error message:
"Power Director has stopped working" followed by: windows is collecting more info about the problem, this might take several minutes... a few seconds later I get: additional details about what went wrong can help microsoft create a solution.
It gives me the option to "send information" to which it simply replies that microsoft will close the program and notify me if a solution is available.
I've never had this problem before and aside from this I have zero tech issues with my laptop.
Windows 7 laptop with 4 gigs of ram - i5 cpu processor at 2.27g - 64bit - vid card - nvidia geforce 310
I DO have the latest Quicktime 7.7.3
I DO have Catalyst 12.10
Alternately, wave editor works fine. ?????
I'm not the most tech savvy person, but everything worked perfectly a few months ago.
Suggestions? Because I'm at a total loss.

I'm having the exact same problem, just downloaded and installed: ATI Catalyst 11.1 and it didn't do didly squat. I do have the latest quicktime as well.
I've used this version of power director (9 ultra) on this laptop just a few months ago without issue, but now... totally inoperable!
