More than likely one of two things:

1. Poor quality media....your DVD or CD is bad or going bad, is not readable in your or other DVD players.
2. The DVD disc is unreadable because it has open or unreadable multiple sessions. Sometimes you have to close all sessions and finalize the disc in order to read the data files in the last session.

What exactly is causing the error. What are you doing?
What exactly are you trying to do? What program? Why the boot disc?
What Power2go is asking for is a boot image that it will use to create the bootable CD. To do that, you can supply it with one using a floppy disk.

1. Place blank good 3.5" diskette in the computer.
2. Open My Computer, right click the A: drive and click Format.
3. In the Format window, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
4. Click Start

This floppy disk you just created will be the "boot image" that Power2go asks for. You may have to "indicate" with the Power2go options, where you have the floppy loaded.

One confusing thing to many people is that when you use a boot floppy image to create a bootable CD and boot up using that CD, you emulate the floppy drive (usually drive A). That means that the computer thinks that it has been booted up by a floppy disk.

So, that's why it starts out with the A: prompt.

Are you using a download accelerator? If so, don't use it for this download.
Second, the file may have been corrupted during the download. First, try re-downloading it. Before you do so,

* be sure that your browser is not set to automatically disconnect after a certain number of minutes of inactivity (in Internet Explorer, under Connection Settings, be sure that "Disconnect if idle for __ minutes" is unchecked.)
* consider disabling your screen saver, to ensure that it does not interfere with the download.
* if you have a lot of other programs running while trying to download, that may be the problem too. Stop or exit any unneeded programs.

If you've tried the remedies suggested and nothing works...
Try clearing your cached web pages:

* In Internet Explorer, select View/Internet Options, then, under "Temporary Internet Files", click "Delete Files,"
* In Netscape, select Edit/Preferences, then, under the "Advanced" category, select "Cache". Then click "Clear Memory Cache" and/or "Clear Disk Cache."

Corrupt files happen more often at peak usage times on the net, so try a time that has less usage----and would be faster.

Are you using dial-up for downloading? If so, connection speed could be the problem.

***Updated codec sources***

Possibly because the codecs that are used by the avi file are not compatible with Power2go.

The term "AVI" is a type of "Container". These containers (avi, mpeg, mpg, mov...etc) contain audio and video. The audio and video tracks are encoded or compressed using a specific technology or codecs. Different codecs can be used for different containers and some can be used for several different containers. To make matters even more complicated, different companies create different codecs to do the same thing...sometimes better in terms of quality and speed.

You can (using XP) right click on some of the "Containers" or Video/Audio files and select "Properties" and "Summary" to see the codecs used.

Example:

Container: AVI
Video Codec: Huffyuv
Audio Codec: Lame MP3

Container: MPG
Video Codec: MP2
Audio Codec: Lame MP3

Now for AVI containers, there are probably a half of dozen current used codecs for the video track.

For instance:

XVID
DivX
Huffyuv
Microsoft Windows Media WMV
Intel
Cinepak

So, it's possible that Power2go doesn't support all of them. To do so, would require Cyberlink to pay for all the technology/licenses. Very few inexpensive programs will have all codecs as part of the package.

I'm not sure if Power2go has the necessary "built in" codecs or if it uses the ones installed on your computer's OS.

One thing you may want to try is to make sure you have the current set of codecs installed on your computer. Here is a link to a package of codecs that are free that you can install:

http://www.codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm (the playback basic ones)

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm (the full set for both playback and authoring/recording)

If the AVI video codec is based on WMV or Microsoft Media Player, then you'll need the latest version of Media Player to get the necessary codecs. Read on this here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/format/codecdownload.aspx

If that doesn't work, then you will have to wait for a better answer here and/or contact support directly.

As a final solution (if nothing else works), you could convert your AVI to an AVI with codecs that Power2go can use. There are some freeware programs that will almost convert anything to anything. One such program that's still in the works is: MediaCoder or Super Both are not very user friendly, but with experimentation, they work.

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html (current program is new and has problems)

http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ (use only the stable version)
