Thanks Hal, that's most helpful.

Bob
Thanks Adrian, I kind of figured that's what you meant but I just wanted to be sure.

Kind regards.

Bob
Sorry, Dafydd, I really should read your guides first! I do apologise.

I can see the patch for 2702. However, the question re WaveEditor is still relevant, and I don't want to download 2702 until I get advice on the point. If my current build / version of PD 9 indicates that I have a fully-functioning WE, I should be OK, but grateful if you (or Adrian) would kindly confirm.

Thanks again.

Bob
Dafydd et al, thanks again, as always.

FYI, the Build No of my PD 9 as currently installed is 9.0.0.2330. The SR No is VDE101129-01. According to Dafyyd's post, this isn't the latest full build version (2701). So, which patch / download should I go for, please, to bring PD 9 bang up to date? You will understand that, having re-stalled PD 9 successfully and with everything appearing to be working fine (although I'm still at the editing stage, haven't yet had time to produce and burn to a disk), I don't want to do anything to screw things up now, especially after all the bother I've had getting to this point.

Adrian's post discusses apparent difficulties with WaveEditor. My WE appears to be working fine. Is any attempt to bring PD 9 up to date likely to create the "peculiarity" to which he refers?

Finally (for the time being, at any rate!) I have a question re a dialogue box that pops up on screen each time I open an existing project, ie:

"Would you like to merge your project's Media Library files with the current media files in this library?"

Should I click "Yes" or "No" here? I have always clicked "No", but what should I be clicking? The User Guide doesn't say.

Thanks again, everyone, for sticking with me on this. I do very appreciate all the helpful input I have received to date.

Bob
Have now had my 64-bit issues resolved, have had the ATI drivers updated and have had K-Lite including Haali uninstalled. Have now re-loaded PD 9 and all seems to working well, so far - no freezes, no crashes.

So, assuming this state of affairs continues, my next question concerns updates.

I see there are a number of patches for PD 9 available. Can I assume that the patch showing the most RECENT date incorporates all the updates from the previous patches, or do I have to load each patch / update separately, and in date order (oldest first)?

Thanks.
Dafydd, sorry, having trouble sending you a sample clip - sending process starts then just freezes. Any advice, please?
Sorry, Dafyyd, meant to ask: if the Haali software isn't compatible with PD, which editor WILL it work with?

Cheers.

Bob
Thanks Dafyyd, this is much appreciated. Re the camera info, it's a Canon HG10 (http://www.canon.co.uk/for_home/product_finder/camcorders/high_definition_hd/HG10/), and I shoot XP, in Program mode - nothing fancy. As for a sample file, I take it you just want me to send you any old .mts clip? And what are you looking for, please, by way of a screenshot?

In the meantime, what do I do about the Haali Media Splitter - should this be uninstalled and replaced with something else (or whatever) or would it be less hassle simply to go for a different editor, like Pinnacle? I'm not wedded to PD 9 - I settled on it because it got the best reviews for the money.

And do I need to update the drivers whichever editor I end up with?

It seems to me there's no point in re-installing PD 9, if ever, until the above issues are addressed. I'll speak to my local PC guy (who custom-built my new base unit) for his input. Otherwise, as ever, I'm in your hands (and those of anyone else who cares to chip in!).

I'm beginning to wish I'd just stuck with stills photography ........javascript:emoticon('');

Kindest regards.

Bob

Hello again, Dafydd. I think what was confusing me was, the attachment option is not given with PMs. Had I chosen to contact you via the forum, I would have spotted the box below!

Anyway, here are the promised files. Many thanks again for your help.

Best wishes.

Bob
Sorry Dafydd, and to others who have made helpful suggestions - now back at work so won't be able to give this the attention I would like. I will get back to it soonest, though, but probably not before the weekend. If this thread drops off the radar meantime I'll PM as necessary.

Please be patient, and thanks for all the helpful advice thus far.

Bob
Hi all

In fact, I've uninstalled PD 9 while I think about what I'm going to do next. I might even just bin PowerDirector and go for Pinnacle Studio 15 or something like that. See, PD 9 Ultra requires 6Gb DDR2 of RAM, while Pinnacle needs only 2Gb. I could get an extra 2, or even 4, Gb of RAM put into my new machine but the guy who built it (only a month or so back) considers that my current RAM (4Gb) should handle AVCHD editing relatively easily (although I note Jim's further comments on that), and suggested Pinnacle also. Trouble with Pinnacle is, it doesn't always get the best reviews.

Any further thoughts most welcome. Dafyyd, if I re-install PD, I'll do as you suggest but I'm kinda disillusioned right now ....

Bob

Thanks.
Thanks Jim, I'm beginning to think that may be the answer. It would certainly explain all the crashes and freezing up.

Cheers.

Bob
I recently loaded PD 9 Ultra on my new PC (Windows 7, 64-bit, 1Tb HD, 4Gb RAM) and after many program crashes, freezes and other failures I finally managed to produce a video which I was happy to burn to DVD. My camera is a Canon HG10 so I set up the programme's Producer to burn a DVD to create a AVCHD, 1920x1080p disk at 16 speed. For some reason, though, the end result is slightly "jerky" in places.

So, first experiences of PD 9 Ultra are not encouraging. Do I need more RAM? I would have thought 4Gb would have been enough, but I'm no expert.

Any comments / advice gratefully received. Happy to provide any other info about the editing / production / process which I used if this helps.

Many thanks.

Bob
