Thank you for the reference link, Jeff, it provided me with a method for a "successful" workaround:

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/17273.page

In my case I was using a static image for the Title/Chapter menu. I simply created a new project, dragged my image to the timeline, and set the duration for 1 minute. Then I generated a video file out of the project, which I then imported as my Title/Chapter background video in the Menu Designer. I selected my background music on the Title/Chapter menu, set the keyframes to the 60 second chunk of music that I wanted, and it seems to have had the effect I desire.

Crazy-ackward workaround though - I would have never tried that on my own. I wish Cyberlink would put a little more emphasis on their DVD menu designer component of PD. Seems strange that it would lack so much functionality and flexibility, when the Edit component is so powerful.

Also sorry for the duplicate post. I posted the first one, then went to find it a little later but never did.
I have created a custom menu template, and am trying to change the duration of some background music on the Title/Chapters menu. I have selected an mp3 which is ~90 seconds long, and set the key frames to the beginning and the end of the music. Then I applied that to all pages. Then in the Playback mode dialog box, I changed the Duration to 60 seconds, which is how much I want the mp3 to play before auto-looping. It seems to work correctly on the root menu. But I can't seem to get the background music to play more than the default 15 seconds on any of the Title/Chapters pages. Am I doing something wrong?
Another couple of great references - thanks again!!!
Hi! I'm a newbie working on my first real PD8 project, and wondering if it's possible to do this. I would like to display a still image for about 10 seconds of players on a basketball court. During this 10-second still image, I would like to draw some animated arrows to visually show how the play is about to unfold - much like how television football analysts draw out the movement of the players on screen before showing the video of the play. It doesn't seem like Pip objects are the right type, nor are particles. Maybe I'm wrong. Is PD8 able to do this type of custom animation?

Thanks for your help.
Quick update...I simply set the duration of the color board in the Pip track to 7 seconds, and the duration of the Title track to 5. This is exactly what I wanted - how simple!

Thanks again for the help!
Thank you for such a quick response, and the reference links. I had run across those two videos yesterday, but forged ahead without actually watching them. Today I watched them from start to finish. Those videos, combined your first technique, had exactly the effect that I intended. I ended up creating a black color board in the Pip track which fades out as you described. Then I created a title track for the same duration as the Pip track with the text I wanted, and also fade out the title. It seems to be a little tricky to get both the Pip track and the Title track to begin fading out at the same time, but that's minor.

As a newbie I didn't fully comprehend (what I think of as) the "priority" of the tracks, which helps a lot now that I understand it a bit better. The video helped with that. I also mistakenly believed that the Title backgrounds were displayed as they appear in the title room, not transparent.

I am well on my way to becoming half way proficient. This was a really useful exercise - thanks again very much for responding!
Hi, I'm a new PD user making my first *real* attempt at PD. I have a video in the master track, and have split the audio into the voice track. What I'm trying to do is fade into the video from a black title page I created which has some simple white text, and I have had some success after searching the forums and watching a few toots. But there are two small details I can't seem to work out, and was hoping to get some assistance.

1. While I would like to fade into the video track, I would also like the audio track to play from the beginning - "underneath" the fade in/out effect. Another way to describe it is that I would like video to start 5 seconds in (after the fade in/out title page), but I would like the audio track to start at time 0. When I add a color board, it seems to push both the audio and the video tracks. And although I can adjust the audio track backward to start at time 0, then the audio and video then become out of sync.

2. After the fade in/out effect of the title track, the video track appears suddenly. Instead of that, I'd like to smoothly fade out from the title page to a black color board for a couple of seconds (with the audio still going underneath), then gracefully fade into the video. But it seems that when I add a color board it always pushes both the audio and video track to the right, and if I split the video track, the video is always moved back to time 0.

I think part of my problem might be uncertainty around when to use a title page, a color board, and a pip track. But I would appreciate any thoughts on my predicament. Sorry if it's unclear - I find it a bit difficult to describe my intended effect in words... Thanks for your time - I can see how great this app will be if I can just get over the initial learning curve...
