Beefing up my PC
[Post New]
Guys, I am not really hardware savvy so , if I was to beef up my current system, what would you recommend me doing? As you know I am doing alot of edditing of HD files.

Core 2 Quad Q6700 (K) 2.66 GHz Intel G33 Express
Memory Installed 6 GB
Speed supported PC2-6400 MB/sec Type 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM
Hard drive 750 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) 7200 rpm none-raid
Video Graphics GeForce 9500 GS 512 MB GDDR2 memory
Platform Vista 64 Monitor 22" LCD Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

I have a nearly identical system and I don't have any current issues. What kind of video files are you trying to edit? My system is a Q9300 with a 9500GT video card and 4 Gb of RAM and my system edits 1920x1080i Canon AVCHD at 24 Mb/s just fine. I did turn shadow files off.

The next logical step for you to upgrade would be the CPU or video card. Upgrading the video card would be the cheaper of the two since you may not need a new motherboard. The i7 and i5 CPUs require a different CPU socket so you would be basically starting over from scratch if you go that rout. Q9300 2.5 GHz
4 GB Ram
Nvidia 9800 GT
