I cannot find a way to select more than one image/video to add to a timeline on my android phone.

One of the difficulties is that PDR is configured differently depending on the platform and specs of the system used, so not all situations are the same!

Some information has come to my attention that you can select more than one image by using the + icon on the timeline but, on my phone, I cannot get that to work.

I think the best thing is to raise a support ticket with CS, at the link in the signature, and give them the full details of your phone etc. and see if you can get a more definitive answer for your context.
