Well, I have installed the latest version of PD 21 (0.2123.0) and checked out some things in version 20 that I have complained about.
I am happy to see that the loading of the features in the various rooms is much faster: in 20 is took (my system) about 1:35 in version 21 the first time opening it takes about 30 seconds, when starting the program, a second time it takes about 10 seconds. It seems that the house-keeping of the features in the rooms has become better:
Switching between the rooms was in previous versions a bit of a struggle for the program. It has improved but is not perfect yet, because my screen is still sometimes stalling and jumping strangely. I have given a screenrecording about this to CL some time ago. But: much better already!
The inventory list of the title room, does no longer lists the entries twice. In the list (this also applies to the other rooms) there has been some sub-categorization, which may help finding items faster. The order of the inventory looks still a bit random.
I have seen some reports of missing downloads and favorites, but I did not see anything wrong with that. During the update there is the question whether you want to “forget” about previous settings. I said no. Maybe that has done the trick?
Not all preferences and setting are copied from the last version. E.g.: the export folder was overruled and settings like PAL are also set back to (what apparently is the default) USA NTSC.... Change the export folder requires a program restart to become in effect... A small thing that can be fixed easily I would recon...
A quick test with a version 20 project, which is the result of a multi-cam production, much color adjustments (and LUTs), zooming and panning. The 4:30 video clip took version 20 about 15:50 to produce. Version 21 took about 11:54. (Same system, drivers, disks, and etc.) with Windows graphic settings set to high performance). If I set Windows to decide which Graphics processing to use, the production is about 30 secs slower. The results (the production is a 1920:1080, 32000kbps, 25 frames clip) compare, and the 20-file size was about 873.7Mb, the 21-version size is about 874.0 Mb. I wonder whether this considerable faster production is also what the other forum members see?
After the update the AI styles plugin was 'empty'. I had to reinstall the styles (uninstall them in Windows and install them using the CAM). After that they worked again. It would be good that CL either fixes this, or at least makes a note for its users about this?
I was able to insert a (new) FX track above track 2, hence below track 1 (I don’t have the reverse order so track 1 is on top in my timeline).
I don’t see the clip “jumping” when a pan and zoom is applied (as was reported). What I do see is, that there is some jumping when my preview is on higher quality.
In the version I use, I don’t notice any audio glitch.
All in all, it was a good decision to wait a while before upgrading to 21. I think that version 21 shows some good improvements under the hood. We can only repeat previous remarks and suggestions: improve on the program internals to make it more flawless and improve on the testing and maybe even engage end-users (well, not like it is done now, a full release and wait for the comments and complaints to stream in).
