Workaround 1 for PowerDirector crashing when producing a 3D move: PowerDirector would produce the movie in 2D but would crash when trying to produce the movie in 3D side by side half, AVC, MP4, 1920x1080, 30P. At the point of the crash I had a 3D .mpo image on track 1 (4 seconds) and a subtitle for the image on track 2 (also 4 seconds). I removed the subtitle and the movie produces with no problem.
Workaround 2 for PowerDirector reporting there was no 3D content when trying to produce a 3D move (same output choices as above). The movie project did have several 3D .mpo side by side images in the project. By replacing one of the 3D images with the same image then PowerDirector recognized there was 3D content and would produce the 3D movie. By replacing a 3D image with itself there was no content change to the movie. These projects only had 3D mpo images, no 3D avi movies, so I don't know if that was a factor.
If you have never tried taking 3D pictures, you do not need any special camera. Just take a picture, move the camera about 3" to the right and take the same picture again (best if nothing is moving in the image). The two pictures can then be used to proudce a 3D image either as side-by-side (best) or anaglyph. There is free softwre available to create the 3D image file and glasses and viewers to see it in 3D. The 3D works best with some of the subject about 10 to 20 feet from the camera and the rest further away.
Compare a flat 2D image with a 3D image of the same scene, and you'll be hooked on 3D!
Enjoy!
