Hi there everyone,

I'm looking at getting hold of PowerDirector 365 to do some video editing. However, I am currently using an older gen Lenovo Chromebook which won't work for this. So i'm going to have to get a new (Used) laptop for this. I say Laptop because I don't have space or the funds for a Computer and monitor setup.
I would like to ask what sort of specifications I am looking for to edit 1080p HD Footage. I am looking at cutting down 5-6 hours of footage down to 15-20mins on it (Cycling footage) as well as editing effects such as overlays and transitions. My price point is probably £150 max for a used laptop. However I'm not to bothered about what laptop it is, more about what specs it needs to run what I am intending it to do. So if anyone has any info on this that would be better.

I know it's quite a generic question and I'm not exactly with it when it comes to what's in a computer.

Thanks for reading and hopefully replying!

Hi,

In general, the specs for PDR are here:
https://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-video-editing-software/specs_en_US.html

Please note - you wont get anything that handles AI type stuff or heavy colourising in any sort of practical timescale for your budget.

I think the consensus of opinion is to focus more on a powerful CPU, rather than a more powerful GPU. Part of using a laptop, particularly one that is not the most powerful, is to look at your workflow, perhaps look to break a project down to smaller parts, rather than asking the system to deal with many timelines and long video/audio clips.
If you can get a suitable SVRT profile to work for you, then the "re-encoding" of intermediary small projects into the final production will minimise any degredation or time delays.

Personally, I make sure any used laptop is set back to factory, then spend some time applying all the system updates, driver updates and getting rid of any unwanted apps and "bloatware", in order to allow you to have a clean environment and minimise conflicts etc.

Be prepared to spend time having a coffee or whatever whilst it does things!

Cheers
