I'm offering $20,000 to anyone who can top this idea -

When I'm in the Media Room (F3) there's a "Search the Library" function in the upper right.

When I search for a sound clip under "Media Content" main heading - let's say "baby laughing.M4A" for example and I enter "baby" into the search bar NOTHING SHOWS UP. WTH??

BUT if I go to "Downloaded" and search for "baby" (where the Baby laughing.M4A file is actually located) - it SHOWS UP.

Are you catching my drift here??? It kind of defeats the purpose when I search under "Media Content" and the file I'm looking for DOESN'T show up.

In other words - I have to KNOW where the file is located to begin with or the "search" function is useless.

Kind of like Catch22 - we'll show you the results of your file search if you know where it was filed. Or, you can just search in each category until you find it - MUWHAHAHAHAHAHA (cue evil laugh sound effect, but that's in "Sound Clips", not "Downloaded.")

So, to claim the $20,000 prize you're going to have to GUESS where the $20,000 is located, kind of like I have to guess where my file is located,

Anyway, thanks for reading this and listening to my rant and have a great day and all the best to you and WTF is with software developers anyway???

Hi,

I'm not sure it's totally that bad. I realise that you could expect the library search to function across all types of content, whatever type etc. etc.

In this case though, the search function is constrained to the library type selected, in effect making a presumption that the user would primarily know what "type" of content they would like to search for.

So the search function works correctly, for the content type displayed in the library window, but it assumes that's where the user would expect to find the resource in question.

There is some logic to this, as the Media Content is project specific, whereas the other library types are cross-project, and therefore having a "whole content" search, by default all the time, might be a waste of resources, particularly on slower systems with a large amount of content?

Anyway, you can always make your suggestion known directly to CL via File>Rate Us and Provide Suggestions.

Good point but for $20K we can't make any presumptions or assumptions. In my admittedly skewed viewpoint of the world, I want to accomplish something in one mouse click instead of two. But ya, point taken.

I now have no idea why I posted about this to begin with, but here we go again!!

IF you happen to search the other Rooms - ie. FX or transitions, or Title Room etc., the search dialogue WILL search through ALL the sub-categories to find the specific fx, transition etc.

So, I stand by my earlier claim - WTF,

anyway, thanks for playing and Jeff guessed where the $20,000 is, so there's a cheque and it's on the way to him!! I'm pretty sure anyway, it was here somewhere,

tongue-out
