*Files play perfect and can move back and forth in real time but still NOT when navigating back and forth along the timeline - so it's 100% an issue with communication between the timeline and preview window only*

I've been playing around with the trial and can see this has absolutely everything I need, however the one issue that is stopping me from buying is the preview window, which is really laggy, when controlling via the timeline.

I've changed the settings to lower resolution (which is okay but quality is unusable), turned off the hardware acceleration features and still no joy. On trialling Corel's Videostudio, Premiere, Pinacle, Davinci on my new systerm, PD365 is the only one that has this issue.

It does work perfect when playing in realtime off the timeline, including moving back and forth using the preview windows own navigation but again, when scrolling through the timeline it's very poor.

I've bought a brand new set up with the below and there is no way I should be using the low resolution settings - especially when all the other programmes timeline previews work perfect.

I really really want this but need the preview to be controlled via the timeline with no lagging/poor quality preview.

It's installed on the same drive as the operating system, and all media etc also on the same drive.

You've got plenty of power, so that's not the issue. You don't say what the source of your video is or its resolution or format, but that's likely what's sticking in the program's craw.

But that said, if you've got an editor that works, why not just use it? All that really matters, after all, is that you have a program that fits your workflow.

The reason I want to use this software is it ticks all the boxes I need. What's letting it down is the lagging during trimming clips, to which I have hours of footage to go through.

Format is 1920 x 1080 HD

This is the only programme that is giving this issue - which is frustraing as again, it's the only one that has an all-in-one solution for my needs.

What is the source of the video you're trying to edit? A camcorder? A GoPro? A phone? An iPhone (which is not the same as a phone)?

If you open a new, empty project and you add a dozen photos to the timeline, does the program work?

If so, the issue could be your source video. We can show you how to reveal the deep specs of your video. We may find a clue there.

There is no problem with my source video.

It works perfect on all other editing programmes. It's an issue with communication between the timeline and preview window.

Looks like there is no solution here unfortunately.

I'm not sure what you mean by the lagging "when navigating back and forth along the timeline." Are you clicking on new clips and waiting for the preview to catch up?

You should be able to use Full HD preview mode and should have Hardware Decoding and OpenCL turned on. The reason StevenG asked about your specific clips is that PD sometimes has difficulty when working with variable framerate clips, and many phone videos are recorded that way.

You can help us help you by following the steps in the 3rd paragraph in this post and attaching the video details. If the clips use variable frame rates, try converting one to a fixed rate using the free Handbrake tool as that will let you know straight away if that's the issue.

You can also try using shadow files and wait for the little yellow icons on the clips in the media library to turn green to let you know that they're fully ready. You can edit before they're finished but the lagging might still be present.

Finally, the trial version has many built-in limitations that the full version doesn't suffer from. You might want to at least consider uninstalling it then paying for the subscription version and giving it a trial run. CL has a 30-day money back guarantee so you won't be out any money if the full version doesn't meet your needs.

Yes, it's lagging and seems to run at a low frame rate i.e. 15 fps or so - not realtime (even when that is selected), and full frame.

I have enabled Hardware Decoding, OpenCL and Shadow but still no joy, plus different combinations, which all give the same result.

I have converted a clip to constant through hand brake and no difference.

Again, the clips play/fast forward/rewind perfect when not navigating through the timeline, so definitely an issue there.

I'm not willing to pay for a subscription, even if I can cancel/get my money refunded, the free trial is here to try it before going for the full version, so should be working now.
