Audio bug, trimmed audio won't stop playing

I'm running into a bug with the audio. So I am editing one long video clip, by trimming out bits and pieces in it and stiching it back together. So in the timeline, I have one clip that contains audio and video. Then I have multiple video clips with no audio. Then one final video clip with audio. I seperate the final clip's video and audio. Then I take the final clip's audio and extend it back to cover the missing audio in the video only clips. So my timeline essentially looks like this:

| V1 | V2 | V3 | V4 | V5 |
| A1 | .... ...A5 ..... ........|

However, when I play this back, A1 does not stop when A5 begins. Instead A1 continues playing for the duration of the entire video. This is like one of the simplest things to do in a video editor and yet it's buggy. What gives???

A suggestion that may or may not work.
Save the project, close and reopen PD20, return to the saved project.
This resolves some cases like yours where a video or audio was cut but insists on staying there.

Unfortunately even restarting my PC did not solve the issue.

I've noticed if I leave a tiny gap between the two audio clips, then this issue doesn't happen. Of course I don't want a there to be a small gap in my audio but figured that info might help with debugging.

When I use several audio clips, I alternate the tracks, there are cases I use fad out on the first and fad in on the second, when necessary or for continuous audio XEON-E5-2680 v4 / Mem. 16GB DDR4
M.2 NVME 512Gb / 2-SSD Sata3 1TB
AMD RX570 / Display Philips 272V8

Yeah I discovered that if I have them overlap just a tiny bit and crossfade it solves the problem. Still seems like such a common bug for such a popular program though...I might have to file a bug report.

I have had this problem for last several months after an update. been trying to find an answer to why. The sound is all messed up when you splice videos. It's off sync or if you edit original sound(deleted or muted) plays over the edit. Drives me insane keep getting rendering bars all the time. It's really bad unusable. I have to edit using something else. Please fix this I paid for a whole year.

DEE B You normally shouldn't be seeing rendering bars all the time, so you may want to reduce your preview resolution to Full HD and make sure you disable the same option here:

The first 720p setting I can think of is on the produce page, and that isn't related to the timeline preview. The other is related to the shadow file resolution, and that's also separate from the timeline preview quality.

Please take a look at the FAQs, especially this one for more help on getting your preview to run smoothly.

I don't get rendering anymore so that's good. This is where it all started. I will try something in the morning. Thank you.
