Trim Video - selecting In and Out positions
[Post New]
Am I missing a setting somewhere?

WIth PD 15 and 16 which I used before upgrading to 365 I could alter the IN and OUT positions in the Trim window whilst the video was playing, making it very easy to see the effect of where my video was starting and stopping. In 365 it seems theres no way to alter those timings without first stopping play. Is this something I can alter to make it possible or have I downgraded functionality to switch to this version?

I'm not sure I understand the shortcoming or that it's changed from prior version. How did you actively adjust in/out while playing? Can you create screen capture or some pics to identify? If you grab the in/out yellowish icon and slide it to adjust the video will play as you scrub the exact position you want.

Yes I'll try to grab a screen recording later to demonstrate it. I tend to use the up/down keys on the keyboard to adjust the edit positions (and the left/right keys to switch between minutes seconds and frames) all the time letting the video play in the Trim window. I've just found this a very quick and easy way to find the exact points I want without stopping the video on a still-frame shot.

Sorry I've not had time to grab that screen recording yet I've been so busy this week. Using those yellow control tabs to adjust IN/OUT points is very imprecise I find, so I'd always go for the time clock adjustments which are made on the right of the window and expressed in Hours Minutes Seconds and Frames. These can be adjusted up and down using mouse clicks on the arrows or can be quickly adjusted using the arrows on they keyboard (which is what I prefer) In PD16 those adjustments did not stop the video playing, but in 365 its paused as soon as I make any change to the In or Out point.

If you are talking adjusting the timecode highlighted in the pic during playback, yes, changes to the timecode there stops trim window playback. That occurred at PD17.

Thanks for the update on that. I was thinking it was just me doing something wrong. Best switch back to PD16 for a while and see if it resolves in future updates. Will save me annual subs at least

I honestly don't see the usefulness of that approach for my editing needs but that's just me. You could use the File > Rate Us & Provide Suggestions in your PD16 and suggest that the feature be added back in a future update of the CL PD product. Since absent in PD17, 18, 19, and 20, it's highly unlikely it would simply resolve in a future release.
