After creating several videos I have attempted to view them in windows media player, the video will run but there is no sound. I am able to view them in other players with sound. Is there a way to fix this in power director or is there some other reason it is not compatable with Windows media Player?

Hi there Plains -

I don't know what the cause of the sound issue is with WMP, but (over the last 12 months or so) I've had a few similar anomalies when using WMP... particularly videos made in 16:9 insisting on being played back in 4:3. It didn't matter what I did to try to correct it.

In the end, I gave up on it. I wasn't able to determine the reason for it - even after seeking advice in this forum and everywhere I could.

As you say, other players behave properly. Since I'm not tied to WMP, it now sits in the background doing nothing. I use WMP Classic Home Cinema as my default player (Splash for AVCHD) - and never have any problems.

It would be nice to learn the reason for the inconsistent functioning of WMP, but I ran out of motivation (too many simple alternatives).

Cheers - Tony

Thanks for the imput, I was afraid that would be the problem. Unfortunatley I need them to play in WMP for work purposes hopefully someone else knows the solution to this problem.

Try installing the Windows Media encoder pack for your version of windows. It may correct problems with the CODECs or possible conflicts.
