DVD Burning Issues with PD8
[Post New]
I am having an issue burning my projects.

I am running:
PowerDirector Version 8.00.2220c
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
Intel Core2 Extreme Q6850 3GHz Quad Core Processor.
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GForce GTX 295 Graphics Card.
NVIDIA NForce 780i SLI Motherboard.

I have created a project with a video file & a slideshow. It allows me to create a menu and the preview works perfectly.

When I try to burn the project to disk it gets to 99 % and then I get an error message (PowerDirector Pop-up) that says:

"Burning Unsuccessful
Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."

The project indicates it is 1964 MB in size.

1) I first tried to burn it to a 4.7 GB DVD and got the above message.
2) I then tried a 8.5 GB Duel Layer DVD and got the same message at 99 %
3) Finally I tried burning to a folder which appears successful BUT it creates a VIDEO_TS folder with a single vob file of 0 Kb - which obviously won't play.

I have attached a screenshot showing the message.

I can successfully burn CD's & DVD's using other programs so it can't be the DVD burner or the media?

Please Help.

I'm having the exact same problem. The weird part is that I successfully burned a version of my project just about twenty minutes before. Then, after finding a few things I wanted to change, I tried it again and it won't work. I didn't even make the project bigger or add anything. I only swapped out a picture or two in my slide show and changed some of the titles at the end.

If there was even a way to burn the file that it creates when you burn to a dvd folder that would at least be something, but no program I own can seem to even open the file let alone burn it.

Need help bad.

I too am having the same problem. One member suggested I uninstall Roxio once I did that I was able to burn several dvds. Recently I made changes to the dvd, attempted to burn again, and received the same error message. The first burn that failed, I change the format of the DVD in production mode. The second time I did everything as I had done the few times it burned and I still received the error message.

I am using PowerDirector 8 v2220

The computer is a Dell Precision M6400 Intel core 2 duo 2.34 GHz 4096MB RAM and a Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M video card.

The video file type is an AVCHD 1080i format

The technical response was nothing more than a copy paste canned response from other tech responses I saw on the forums.
I attached the Windows Error Log/Event File as well as the DxDiag.text file and a screen shot which CLEARLY mentions that I'm running Windows 7, shows I have more than 2 GB free ram available and have close to a 1 TB free hard drive space, I also mentioned in the ticket all the steps I had completed prior to requesting the help - It is evident the technician did not even look at the attached files as their advice talked about issues in Windows XP, suggested trying some of the things I had already stated did not work, mentioned increasing RAM & freeing up hard drive space.

The most outrageous suggestion was to disable my virus scanner (Norton Internet Security 2010)while running PD8 - this is just bad advice especially considering PD 8 connects to the internet through Director Zone.

I eventually did figure the issue out on my own - conflicting drivers from Pinnacle Studio Ultimate - Uninstalled prior to PD 8 Install (Dirty Uninstall - the default uninstaller does not remove all components).

Program works fine and as advertised but the Tech Support is Abyssmal, very disappointed.

The users in the Forums are far more helpful than the official Tech Support.

Keith how did you figure out that the cause of the error was conflicting drivers. I still have not been able to fix my burn problem. I dislike the fact that I had to uninstall my Roxio in order to make PD 8 work. I am hoping to get this fixed so I can finish my project. Thanks for any help you can provide.

It was pure luck - shot in the dark.

I was reviewing the DxDiag.text file I created ans saw .dll entries for Pinnacle Studio which I had previously uninstalled and thought that as it too is a vidio editing programme, that this might be the issue, turns out it was - I used CCleaner and did some manual registry edits usinr regedit.

Thanks Keith, I tried burning serveral times andon the last try it worked. I am still very frustrated by not figuring out what is causing this error. When the error occurs my system says that it has plenty of memory and storage capabilities.

I have also experienced this issue. I followed most of the suggestions in this forum to correct my DVD burning issue with no success. I have Roxio and deleted it thinking it was a driver conflict and that did not work. It would start burning and then stop at various percentage levels. Windows would eventually have to force it to close.

I have an HP Pavillion e9280t with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with 9GB memory. It has an intel i7 920@2.67 GHz processors with a 750G HD. I am new to Power Director but I was able to work with it with less problems in Windows 7 than with Roxio.

I have finally been able to successfully burn DVD movie projects without crashing -> so far <- and here is what I do to accomplish that.

After any editing I save and close the project. I then shutdown the computer for a few seconds then restart it. Then I do not do any editing but open the project and go to Create Disk. By following that routine I have burned 11 DVD's (same project with various different edits) without a failure. If I do any editing - even after a successful burn - and try to burn a DVD it fails. I am not sure why that is.

It sounds crazy but it works for me. Just restarting my computer doesn't work for me and neither does just closing the program and restarting it.

Believe me I totally understand everyone's frustration with this issue and I hope that this information will work for others also. I also hope that it continues to work for me - even though it is not my preferred method of a burning process.

I've been experiencing the same type of problems. The issue appears to have been solved by a patch This patch updates PowerDirector 8 to PowerDirector 8 build 2508. Perhaps this will help.

I'm also having this problem. I have a duo core i7 running Windows XP. Tera bite Hard drive plenty of RAM.... I bought Power Director 7 and upgrade to PD 8 and have build 2508. I have to do the same to burn a DVD.. I've also loaded the Produced file directly into PD and went directly to Burn DVD and it "usually" burns.

I've seen information about a build 2510??? Has anyone solved this problem??

Is customer service any help?

I also am having the same problem. It's frustrating as hell. I've wasted a dozen DVD's trying to figure this thing out.

And your problem now is?

Burn issues with PD can be caused by a number of factors besides conflict with other software as Keith who started this post found. Content is a major problem and where an editor "over selects" with zealous zeal every whistle and burp PD can do. The result is that memory gets overloaded and the program will crash, stall etc.

Think what you're asking your computer to do? To render a video in the timeline, make a menu and then write to disc. Gee, there was a time we would not run anything when writing a disc. Today, editors expect to be able to still browse the net and do something else. With the HD video you will need to have a hi spec and some spare capacity.

The simple solution is to be smart - split your processes, think what you're asking your PC to cope with. edit in shorter bundles. Finally bringing the project together for SVRT to do a final Produce and then move to Create Disc.

Just giving an opinion.

Dafydd:

I appreciate your response. I tried what another user suggested and saved the project, shut down the system, started PD8 with nothing else running, opened the project and it burned the DVD okay.

I am not overtaxing this sytem and making elaborate productions, it's simple home video editing with chapters. My system is more than capable with 4G DDR3, Core 2 Quad, and Dual ATI Crossfire.

There is an issue where this software does not play well with others and / or it trips over itself when it feels you've been editing too much. I just got a response from tech support and they want me to selectively start windows and disable virus protection along with 10 other things. Not a solution in my book.

I understand what you're saying, there's a lot going on here. But when I spend hours editing a video and get a lame message about not enough storage, kill a dozen disks trying to figure it out, it becomes very frustrating. I think they can and should do better. We'll see how the rest of my productions go.

Thanks again for your input.

Hi Dave,
Yep, I've seen these responses before from support. I think it's called "covering all bases", even though I've never watched a baseball game, means they are being cautious.

A thing I do on my system is NEVER allow auto updating, whether it is anti-virus or some other program, all are manual or blocked. It is background running programs which eat into your processing power.

Other that being jealous of your crossfire set up I have a similar system to edit with and I know it's weak points. I can make my system hang and fall over if I wished by stressing it with specific HD files 1080 60p, really easily.

The shut down and restart is one of the methods I have suggested in the past.
