Canon 5D 1080 HD Movies - Cannot handle.

Both my computer, using QuickTime to play, or PowerDirector to try to edit - cannot scratch the surface of these cracking movies.

The actual images are just unbelievable, but playing in QT results in jerky samples at goodness knows what frame rate (5fps??) ... and trying to view or edit them in PD7 is a joke.

Not being a video editing nerd, I need some drastic help. I thought my graphics board was the problem so bought a super fast, big buffered, jobbie. I have a 3.4GHz CPU, and bags of memory and finally a 1600x1200 monitor. But to no avail.

Just what does one need to view?
What does one need to edit?

Perhaps an Apple...? i7 980x; W7 Pro; 12GB; Nvidia GTX 285; 2x300G Velociraptors in Raid 0; 2x1.5TB Barracuda in Raid 1; 2TB WD Studio Ed.II (eSATA); NEC SpectraView Reference 2690 + MultiSync EA232

Hi Denbigh -

You're right... an amazing camera!

The 5DII uses h264video at 1920×1080... and at 38.6MB/second

My Canon's maximum bitrate is 24 MB/second & I can tell you that PD7 didn't deal with it at all. PD8 is much improved in that regard.

I'd say, however good you PC is (and your new card), PD7 won't even look at it!

Sorry - no good news.

Cheers - Tony
