I am trying to use a .wav file (stereo 48 Khz) in the PD8 time line. When I try to play the time line I am getting the error attached. Can some one help me work around this issue? Or is this another bug that is not addressed by R&D?

This is not another bug. This is a corrupted file, IMHO. If you don't understand what's wrong, why not just ask the question without the silly accusation?

Hi rajenk -

Where's the file from & how did it get to your PC? The reason for the error message is that something is WRONG with the file.

Try converting the sound file with something like Format Factory or Audacity (both free).

They'll either (a) convert it to something PD will read or (b) tell you it cannot convert.

Tony

Hi rajenk,
Tony is right however there was an audio "bug" relating to *.mp4 and *.m4a audio files as they throw up the same warning. You mentioned the audio file you have is a *.wav, then Tony's answer is correct.

Please state what build of PD8 you have.

Hi Tony,

Thanks. I appreciate your help on this.

I have made such a statement in my posting because I have gone through lots of bugs and even lost few DVD media when PD crashed on me! Its all out of frustration, nothing else.

Now to the problem. The file in question is converted from mp3 to wav. I did that myself using nero encoder. The reason is that the mp3 file as such will stop playing (after rendered into the movie) at some point in PD. I thought converting to raw PCM wav file might make PD's job easy. But it did not work. The file plays fine on all media players. Even PD can play both the original mp3 and its wav file. But originally when I had the mp3 file, after I have rendered the whole project, some parts of this music file will be missing sound! I can see that in the file itself when PD generates graph. The parts that will not produce sound will be a simple straight line, but the area where the sound is produced will have proper wave graph.

So either I need to fix the original problem in the mp3 or convert to a format that PD likes using the tools you have mentioned.

I have few more questions.

1. Are there any tools to analyze and fix mp3 files that would not generate proper wave graph?

2. Does PD support AC3 format?

To answer Dafydd ,

The build I have is 8.0.2220

Thanks,
Rajenk

Hi rajenk -

What's the source of the original mp3? On your PC, is it stored in iTunes or some similar library?

So - the file imports OK, but PD is having trouble encoding it (both the "original" mp3 & the wav files). PD is happy with wav & mp3. I haven't ever tried it with AC3.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Rajenk,

If PD plays the original .mp3 file OK but then has a problem during rendering of the movie, maybe try a new project, import the .mp3 only and produce to wma and see if that can be used.

Having said that, my PD8 is busy rendering so I'm looking at PD7 - can't recall if the same options are available in PD8

I'll check later.

Cheers

Hi Tony,

The source of the mp3 is from a Indian classical music website. I don't know how that was produced originally.

Yes PD imports to these files without any problems. The problem starts when I put it into the time line.

The WAV file has the error that we are discussing in this thread. The mp3 sound goes missing!

Hi Adrian,

I will check that possibility of converting mp3 to wma

Thanks,
Raj

Option1 Using PD, you'll be able to render to wma as Adrian said.

Option2 Option 2 would be converting it in other software, as suggested. I find Audacity useful when there are errors because it has the ability to import audio files & raw data. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Format factory is useful too and will show up any problem with the file. http://www.formatoz.com/

Option 3 might be to download the file again. There may be a problem with it.

Cheers - Tony

Sorry guys I got busy at work. The problem was due to the Nero encoder using more than 16-bit encoding. So with 16-bit encoding the WAV file was usable in the timeline without any issues.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
