Can someone explain to me why there is no simple copy and paste function in the "New Topic" window or "Reply" window on this forum. I wanted to paste a simple URL and do not see an option to do so.

You need to use normal keyboard commands. Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste. For links, simply paste the URL as text or use the link icon SoNic67 mentioned to embed it like this.

More than likely OP is using Edge for the browser which appears to have issues with Ctrl+V so for that browser the chain link icon as pointed out will still work.
The wonderful ways MS helps us
Ctrl+Shift+C copies text formatting and Ctrl+Shift+V pastes it.
Ctrl+C and Ctrl+Shift+V makes it work in this forum.
Thank you!
