Why does some fading trasition not work?

Hi,

I'm using PD 19 Ultimate. One of fading trasition does not work as expected. The rest fading trasitions work just fine. Please see the attached clip.

The sax player almost shows up immediately without fading. I tried different fading time 2sec - 5 sec and also delete-readd the fading transition but got the same effect. Sax player always "jumps" into the frame without fade in effect. In another section of the same project, 2 sec fading at the begining of that section works just fine. I couldn't find differences between this failed fading and another work fading (again, it's also at begining of a section). What could possibly cause this issue?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks & regards.

That kind of glitch has been reported many times over the years and I don't think there'e ever been a single satisfactory answer. I know it's happening because you have an overlap transition between the clips on track 1 and somehow that interferes with how PD processes the sax player clip.

The good news is that it's very easy to fix: Remove the fade transition on the lower clip and instead use Opacity keyframes in the PiP Designer or Keyframe tool. Click to add a keyframe set to 100 where you want the fade-in to end, then add a new keyframe at the start of the clip and set the value to 0 and you're all set.

You can instead control+click on the thin green Opacity line at the top of the clip where you want the fade-in to end to add a keyframe there, then control+click on the start of the line and drag it down to the bootom to set it to 0.

I keep trying and found after delete mask in the first 3 sec and recreate mask there, then fading transaction works fine now. Not sure why mask causes this issue. This mask is used to cover some shadows (close to the sax player) that chroma keys cannot fully filter out. So the mask does not cover any part of the sax player.

Thanks & regards.

Yeah, this is a nice trick to fix the issue. Thank you.

Another fix when transitions don't work as expected is to remove the transition, drag the clip to another track (like 1 track below) and then add the transiton there. You can then return it to its previous location.

Sometimes other effects will create a situation where transitions will always be glitched but luckily, it's just a few niche situations.

Why this doesn't get fixed? no idea. Extremely lazy or underfunded developers. It's been around for as long as I have used the software (8+ years) and they never do anything to fix it.
