Keeping Text on Screen While Adding New Text

Good Evening

I am just starting to use PD 19 having stepped up from another software package. I am trying to keep text on screen while adding new text. Specifically, I have a speaker who is listing certain items. As he mentions each item, I want to have that displayed on screen in sequence, but not have previous items disappear (basically listing each one as he mentions it).

My thought is that each item would need to be in a separate text object on a different line. If anyone knows a simple way of doing this, it woud be appreciated.

Thanks much

The simplest way is to add each item listing to a separate video track. This way you can have each item come on when you want it to and stay on as long as you'd like.

Granted, this means you'll be creating a lot of titles and using a lot of video tracks, but that's really about the only way to do it.

You can add separate text layers to the same title and make them start at a different time and last the entire title. This way you do not have to add a new track and add a new title everytime the person speaks. Simply choose to add a new text layer in the title designer, type the text you want, go down to the text layers underneath the preview window, and drag the beginning of the text layer to the time you want it to come on the screen.

I appreciate the assistance, however as I said originally, I am a novice on this software. It seems that there is no "Layers Mode" in Powerdirector 19. All I have found in trying to research it is a Layers Mode in Photodirector. Can you please give some further insight into how to access this mode?

thanks

I gave it a try and while very tedious, it seems to work. Never having used this before, I wondered how many tracks I could add, but it seemed to not be a problem.

Thanks!

The text layers that Maliek is referring to is in Title Designer. There is a +T button at the top. Click on it to add a new layer. Add text to this layer and move the start of it to the right so that it appears after the first layer displays. Do the same above to add another layer. Use the help screen or follow his PD University tutorials on this.

StevenG’s method also works. You only need 2 or 3 tracks if you plan and stagger the titles properly.

Hope this help.
