Shadow/proxy file usage

This is a query about the usage of shadow/proxy files.
Conditions:
1. Auto created when imported to a project, and used during edit
2. The project has been completed and produced using the proxy files
3. After production is completed and as a space saving measure, the proxy files are deleted from the PC
4. Later, the the project file is re-opened for an additional edit
then

does PD18 auto re-create the missing proxy files? OR

must they now be re-created manually?? If so, how?

PD recreates them if you still have the shadow file option selected in pref.
