Sections of Produced Video are warped - all from same source file

I'm back - you guys were so quick and helpful the last time - very grateful.

I have made a compilation video and everything looks super in the editor but when I go to produce the video the clips from just one of the videos come out all warped. I have tried to produce the video as .wmv, avi, and mov and it's the same for all.

the source videos are all avi but I don't really know much else about video editing.

Now that i've tried everything I can think of, time to ask for help.... ???

Hi Tricia -

Am I understanding correctly...

Are all the clips from the same source? You say they're all AVI - from what source? What was the original aspect ratio? 16:9? 4:3?

The clip that is coming out warped in production sounds like it might have aspect ratio issues. Are all the clips in the same aspect ratio? 4:3? 16:9?

If I had this issue, I'd try pre-producing the "troublesome" clip (let's call it Clip_T) in the same format you intend to use for the final production... then replace Clip_T in the timeline with the newly produced file.

I hope that helps a little - Tony

What Tony is saying sounds right. Did you record each video with the same camera and settings?

Before you begin a project make sure you have the aspect ratio set correctly. After you drop each clip into the timeline, right click and check the aspect ratio of each clip. Make sure they all match that of the project. If you are trying to mix 16:9 and 4:3 video while the project is set to 16:9, the 4:3 clips may be being stretched to fill the screen.

the troublesome clips are from the same source, so I guess you're saying that the other sources would have diff. aspect ratios?

Looking at the project file now, the troublesome clips come from an avi source fle 24 fps 16:9 resolution 854x480. The ones that come out fine come from an avi source file 23:97 fps 16:9 resolution 1280x720.

So, could it be the resolution? They're being stretched to match the others maybe? If so, how do I reconcile that? I know nothing about this stuff. I do understand what you're saying about pre-producing those clips though.

Did you record these files yourself? Since the frame rates are different it seems that they came from different cameras. I don't know how PD will handle video with two different frame rates mixed together.

I think you should try to render each file separately into a common format in this case so that when they are mixed they will at least be the same. What is your target format of your final project? I would try rendering each file to that format first and then try putting them all in the same project.

Opps, I looked at your post again and realized that you already said that they came from the same camera.

Tricia -

I'm afraid I somehow missed the HEADING too... same source file! Sorry.

So - either they were recorded on the same camera... or you've extracted the clips from another file, which may have been recorded on different cameras??? What was the source?

I do think that following James' advice above (rendering each clip in the same format & profile as the target format) should resolve the warping issue.

Cheers - Tony

I may have it fixed. Yes they are clips pulled from 2 separate videos (not mine). Both avi, same aspect ratio, diff. resolution though.

I did produce the warped ones through PD8 and then put them back into production with the others. I took just 2 small clips from each of the different videos and produced a 30-sec video to see what happens. Came out fine.

Now will just have to see if it all holds true when I put the whole thing back together again. Thanks for the advice....again.
