Lost the Originals - Can I recover copies from Photodirector?

Hi everyone,

My hard drive containing all my original pics has been irretrievably damaged - yes lesson learned the hard way and I've tried a data recovery firm!

I had most of the pics imported into Photodirector project files for editing - is there any way that I can use the Photodirector project files to recover these pictures?

Thank you
Sam

Hello Sam,

Welcome to the PhotoDirector forum laughing

I don't think PhotoDirector is going to be able to help you with this predicament, unfortunately. PhotoDirector, like many photo managers/editors, does not actually "import" photos and make a digital copy unless you specifically request it on import. Depending on your computer setup, it's likely that those copies would have been created on the same (now damaged) drive.

What I imagine might be occuring now is that PhD is presenting an alert saying "photo missing" (or similar) as it attempts to access the damaged drive. Are the photos displaying in PhD without any such alert?

Thanks for your reply, no, the pics aren't showing as it's trying to load them from a place that's no longer there... I was wondering if there was a "ghost" copy stored somewhere perhaps...?
