Does PC to AVR to Screen prevent 4K playback?

I have just completed a new set up that was supposed to handle 4K - but Cyberlink's UHDBD Advisor fails on "Advanced Protected Audio/Video Path (GPU)". Everything else passes. However, I am wondering if the fact that my PC goes to an AVR and then on to my screen is considered to be a break in the DRM chain? Attempting to play a 4K disc gives me Cyberlink's 01003 error code.

I have:

  • Shuttle XH310V with an Intel i7-9700 (all drivers up to date and SGX enabled in the BIOS)

  • Pioneer BDR-211UBK (external in a Mercury Pro case)

  • Windows 10 and PowerDVD 18

  • HDMI v2.0 cables

  • Marantz NR1609

  • Dell U2718Q (happily running 3840 x 2140 @ 60 Hz)

Any ideas? Or have I simply blown a considerable sum of money on a system that will never play 4K...

I have that already: the i7 9700 has UHD 630 and the AVR shows as connected to HDMI. In fact, it has to be that way because I do not have seperate graphics or sound cards - everything comes straight off the CPU via HDMI and through the AVR.

I have the suspicion that this might be an Intel issue with the i7 9700. There are a couple of topics on Intel's support forum regarding my problem exactly, where an i7 9700T will not allow 4K playback, regardless of the motherboard it is installed on.

what motherboard you use? I have Asus z390 has HDMI only 1.4 and DP 1.2 suck

No problem in CPU: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/core/i7-processors/i7-9700t.html
have SGX and intel UHD 630 with 4K. Try install new driver intel.

Shuttle develop their own motherboards, in conjunction with American Megatrends.

It has been suggested I update the BIOS (there is a newer version than mine available), but that is stepping just a little outside my comfort zone...
