I've upgraded and paid for stand alone PD 18 from PD 16. system is windows 7. The only reason I upgraded was due to the improved chromakey functionality but I have now lost the audio waveform display in the timeline and audio editor. This is driving me nuts and it seems to be a common problem. I experienced it intermittently in PD 16 but its now permanent. I NEED this fixed and I dont want to hear "Well you need a new system" thats BS.

Ive done a clean install, I've reinstalled, Ive looked in the cache\waveforms folder and deleted txt files, Ive checked the show sound waveform in timeline box. Ive unchecked enable shadow files Ive unchecked auto delete temporary files. Ive reloaded Ive resized audio and video files. Ive saved as different projects Ive tried WAV Ive tried different mp3 bitrates I have tried everything but NOTHING WORKS. I HAVE A CLIENT WHOIS GOING TO PAY ME FOR A BIG PROJECT AND I CANT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE EFFIN AUDIO WAVEFORMS WONT DISPLAY>

For some strange reason the only media which displays the waveforms are the demo files that are present when opening the program. Nothing else

Open one of your source video clips in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the report that it generates and paste it to this forum. Once we know what the video is composed of we'll better be able to help you.

I'm suspecting your problem is related to your video having AC3/Dolby Digital audio and your editing it on Windows 7.

Phillvictor lamonde, I don't see anything unusual about the file specs, and the problems you're describing are not typical.

Can you upload both clips to OneDrive, DropBox or Google Drive and paste the link here so others can test them? It would also help to see the DxDiag results as described in the link PDM provided as there may be a simple coinfiguration issue on your PC.

I just had the exact same problem. Very irritating.
But it seems there is a simple solution.

Right click on the sound track and click 'Use automatic beat detection.'
This will bring up a new window which initially will be blank and might say something like 'analyzing waveform for display.' If it's a long track, you'll have to wait a few minutes, but eventually a waveform will appear.
Click 'apply' and it should appear on your timeline soundtrack.
Not sure if it makes sense but it seems to solve the problem. Perhaps a Cyberlinke person can chime in. (Hint: there's a tip jar on my desk)
