Is it possible to darken scanned text with photodirector?

I searched here and couldnt find the answer, and when I did a more general internet search on how to darken text in scanned newspaper articles, I learned the only freeware that would do this is acrobat reader and gimp.

I followed the instructions here for reader, and it did nothing. I even changed the text and background colors to see if the settings described in the article would change anything and they did not.

I am investigating the gimp method now, but if it can be done in photodirector easily, I will go ahead an buy it as I am pleased with powerdirector so far.

atached are my dxdiag and the clipping I am trying to darken the text on.

I just had a quick go in PhotoDirector.

Bear in mind this was just a rough and ready go, but I think it's approaching what you want?

I have taken a screenshot to show the changes that I did.

Hello Anglokelt,

Both tomasc and Philwild have shown that it's possible to improve the readability of a poorly scanned/poor quality document.

Regarding the actual scan, might the scanner settings applied have made the contrast issues worse? It seems to be quite low resolution.

PhotoDirector can certainly help to improve the quality of your scanned image. Here, I processed, then exported, then re-processed. The two sets of adjustments I made are uploaded as presets, which can be installed into PhD.

I agree with you about the limited impact of the Adobe Acrobar Reader suggestions!
