I am a newbie here, although I have searched the forum enough to feel like a veteran. I have not found my problem elsewhere so here is my question...
***UPDATE***
I just noticed that the edit room has S/PDIF selected as the device while in the capture room it is the USB mic, which explains the lack of input I was experiencing. However, my troubles are not completely solved. When I go to the "Device" button to select the mic, it is already selected and there is no S/PDIF option! Yet the S/PDIF remains selected in the main room. So if anyone has any insight into this... THANKS!

SOLVED - For no good reason I went into the Windows control panel>System>Sound>Input-Device Properties and checked the microphone "Disable" box and then un-checked it re-enabled the microphone. When I returned to PowerDirector 17 the S/PDIF in the Device window was replaced with Microphone and all worked as expected. Why this occured is beyond me, as no settings were changed otherwise. Hopefully this will help so poor video editor who gets stuck on the same problem down the road.

I have a USB microphone that works dandy in the capture room, creates a file and drops it in the media room. I can then add this to the timeline and its fine. There is no preview window in the capture room, which is what the edit/voice over area is for. However, when I go into the voice over room the mic level display does not show any activity on the meter (as it does in the capture room) and when I begin recording it creates a yellow box in the "mic" timeline which disappears a few moments after the recording ends. I assume the wav file is not created because it did not record audio, but that is a guess. The mystery is why it works flawlessly in the capture room but not in the edit room (voice over section). In the voice over room I select "device", then the mixer option and the correct mic is selected and it even shows its VU meter reflecting mic input. But when you go back, nada.
I am stumped! Can anyone help me out?
I am using a USB mic that funtions elsewhere in Windows 10, desktop I7 with 32gb memory. The mic works with Audacity just fine and in Windows Control Panel/Sound. I have consulted the manual, searched the forum, and Googled it with no relevant results.
Thanks!
Michael
