Can YOU watch TV in PD17 using YOUR Diamond 750 USB Stick?

After seeing the 2419 beta patch for PD17 just released, I decided to try PD17 Essentials on a fresh Win8.1 partition. (I've been using PD15 in my Win7 partition for the past 2 years.)

To my pleasant surprise, when I changed to the Capture Mode in PD17, it now sees that I have a Digital Tuner and even lets me "scan channels." (Whereas PD15 reported an incompatiblity.)

(ATI DBTV Digital Tuner.)

It sure acts like it's scanning channels, 'cause it takes a few minutes to get through the process of scanning. Unfortunately, after the scan finished, I don't see any TV. I think that's because I can't change channels from the default of Ch 1.

I can't change the channel with the up/down arrows. So all that I get is a black screen.

I can type in a channel. But it reverts back to 1 after a few seconds.

I tried changing the channel by using the Remote that came with my USB Stick. No joy.

Compare this to using WMC. (I did the Win10 trick/hack to install WMC in Win8.1) There I can watch TV and change channels with or without the remote.

Now, to be fair, I use a trimmed version of Win8.1. (Trimmed with NTLite.) So it could be that I removed a component from Windows that PD needs to send the change channel command.

So I'm wondering if anyone else is able to watch/record OTA TV with PD17 using a Diamond TVW750USB ATI Theater HD 750 USB TV Tuner?

I don't have any way of testing this since I don't have the Diamond USB stick, but your comment about using a trimmed version of Win8.1 seems significant.

If you have access to another PC that's running a full version of Win8.1or 10, I think you should try the setup there. Doinfg that may confirm that there's a possible PD17 issue, or help determine that something might be missing or not properly configured on your original system.

It would also help to know if the tuner works normally on your existing system outside of PD, and the problem only appears when using the capture room. In that case, maybe setting the tuner to the desired channel before opening PD (or switching to the Capture Room) may work.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, as stated in my OP, my Diamond USB TV stick works fine in my OS using Windows Media Center.

In fact, when I first tried capturing OTA TV with PD17 Essentials, WMC said it lost the signal. So I take that as a good sign that PD17 is grabbing the signal and is now working better with my stick.

I don't have another PC to try an untrimmed Win8.1 for this test. From questions from about two years ago on trying to capture OTA TV with this stick in PD15, I believe that a few people in this forum have the same stick. So I thought it easier to ask them if the stick is working for them with PD17.

If no one answers and if I it bugs me enough, I'll image my current partition and install a clean OEM in the partition to do your vanilla test someday.

To watch or record digital TV, you must have a good antenna. Either, quality rabbit ears or outside antenna on a pole.
Rabbit ears work OK, if you are in a area close to the transmitter. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Yes, I understand. We have a good antenna, and I can watch TV just fine using Windows Media Center on my computer.

The problem is that I can't select a channel (other than the default Ch 1) when I use PD17 to watch TV on the same computer. (Although when I set PD17 to use the analog part of my TV stick, it will change channels. Of course, I get nothing but snow, since no one transmits analog TV in the States anymore.)
