Hi all,

Looking for some advice on which base for my system, the 2700x & 8700k seem fairly close in terms of performance, but significantly different in terms of price.

After using Intel only for over a decade, I am some what reluctant to try AMD again after so long without using any of their products first hand.

I will mainly be using the system to edit 4k video from a Nokia 8 and hero 7, preferably rendering using H.265 and large amounts of file storage and transfer.

Any advice appreciated

James

welcome back.
for now stick with i7-8700K. built in gpu, HA encode/decode H.265 10bit 4.2.2 that'll justify $60 higher
cost besides playing games and content creating...

PD17 does H.265 8bit 4.2.0.

Ryzen 7 2700x comes with free heat sink fan with psychedelic colors...
maybe wait till next year when AMD comes out with new cpu.
still AMD didn't incorporated HA encode/decode H.265 and hungry for electricity.
APU is out the window...

i can't afford to run four refrigerators in my house. i only need one. got space for one. ^^

happy happy joy joy

i did plan to go with Ryzen 7 2700K after reading anandtech ryzen 7 2700x performance , changed mind and
waiting...

Thanks Pepsi

I already went for the 2700x with an Asus rog strix gaming board, most benchamrks show the 2700x ahead of the 8700k in everything except single core or gaming.

I don`t know if the price difference is less where you are, but here in Britain I got the 2700x at £140 less then the cost of the 8700k.

hey that's great.
if price difference is like yours then i'd buy it, too.

if you've read the anandtech article then ryzen 7 2700x is preferred for video content creation and
i7-8700k for gaming.

either way it is all good.

only reason i've chosen to go with ryzen 7 2700x is that Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming motherboard
supports windows 7 64bit OS!!!
asrock x370 motherboards support windows 7 64bit also.

trying to hang on to the last second... ^^
