Every time i try to add my video to the timeline the program hangs and i have to close it out. I have a Core i7 3ghz pc with 8GB Ram, I am running Vista 64 HP. I have reload the program and ran win clean up and reinstalled. That did not work same problem. I then reformed my Vista machine and reinstalled the program again with the same results. I have tried every setting in the program with the same results. The video plays fine on the workspace its just once i move it to the time line it freezes.
The video file is AVCHD 2.79GB file MNpeg-4.

thanks,

Lord

Hi Lord,

2 things to clarify maybe -

What is the exact format/source of your AVCHD files? Maybe PD cannot handle them?

and

does PD hang with smaller file sizes? Maybe it is the size that is an issue?.

A c.3Gb file will take some time to process in the timeline. Often PD will be operating in the background and appearing unresponsive - do you have any software to monitor the activity - like using Task Manager,or bmem.

Others have more direct experience with higher spec systems, but from reading the forum posts it seems that PD can still operate 'slowly' depending on the task it is carrying out.

Cheers

I have a dule core pc that it works fine with. I have produced 15gb files from the same camera. I upgraded to the new machine and now it will not let me put anything on the time line. I tried smaller files and get the same thing. I have tried everything under the sun and can't get anything on the time line. When I monitor with task manger I am getting little to know cpu or memory activity. The video plays fine in the workspace. I have 1gb drives and changed the location to storing the files with no recourse.

Lordy Lordy!

You must be tearing your hair out. What a frustrating experience, especially after upgrading your PC.

What camera are you using?
Which profile AVCHD? 17MBps or 24?

When you imported clips on your dual core PC, were they inthe same format?

Sorry - more questions than answers.

Cheers -

Tony

Man you don't know how this is frustrating me. I have spent two whole days with no sucess. I am recording at 17mbps. Yes they are the same format when I import on my dual core pc. I just inported a 12gb file on the dual core with no problems. It justs takes like 3 hours to inport however once inported I can work with the files with out problems. Thanks for the responces. I don't know what else to do at this point.

I think they'll help you.

Quad core for AVCHD editing + a good graphics card.

Thanks I read all the posts and none of them help. The program works ok on my duel core however on my new icore7 it will not load to the timeline no matter what you try. After reforming my system and starting over i get the same problem. This sotware is full of bugs!!

I just completed a project with 24 Mb/s Canon AVCHD on my quad core Q9300 system using 32 bit XP and had no major problems. I had a couple of moments where the software suddenly became very unstable which caused me to save after every edit. I just decided to reboot and that fixed everything.

From reading this forum it seems that users with Core2 Quad systems have fewer problems than those with I7 systems. It also seems that 64 bit vista causes more problems than 32 bit vista and 32 bit XP, but 64 bit XP works fine.

I think your major problem at this point is your operating system. What operating system do you have on your dual core system?

Check out this thread.

I think you are correct because I am coming to the same conclutions. I a have Win XP on my old system and the program works fine it is just two slow!! I spend all this money for a new system just for this program and can't get it to work!!! They claim it is optimized for i7 !! I am dead in the water on my new system and it works to slow on my old system!!!! I think I am going to look at Sony Vegas or Adobe because I have spent two must wasted time without any results.

You could download the preview version of Windows 7. There have been some posts on this forum of people having success with it, but it is so new that the jury is still out.

The best way to determine the Vista 64 bit issue and I7 is to install either XP or 32 bit vista onto your I7 machine and see what happens. That's a lot of work which may not be feasible in your situation.

I know others thinking about upgrading would be interested in your results.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Q9300 2.5 GHz

Once the full v of Win 7 comes out I will upgrade my system then. The reason I went with the 64 bit is to take avantage of the extra ram.

thanks,

Would it be great for PD7 to have an idiicator that it is "busy" or is it there and I am missing it?
