Hello Everyone,

For what it’s worth, here are a couple of links to some tools I found, that may be useful to other forum members as well.

Though free sound effects sites abound, I found the “FreeSoundProject” to be one of the more interesting sites that I’ve come upon.
http://www.freesound.org/index.php
Using the “search” feature revealed a quite diverse sampling of sound effects, and the site also has a forum where members can request a specific effect or voice over. Then other FSP members apparently volunteer there efforts to create an effect or VO that will suit the request. And then that effect is then posted for all to use.

However, in my initial exploring of the site, I did run into one problem.
Some of the files I downloaded, turned out to be in the .aiff format, and would not load into PD’s audio tracks, or open in Windows Media Player.
(Perhaps the K-lite Full codec pack that I have installed is deficient in it’s compliment of audio codecs?)
I then browsed the “Extras For Editors”, at the SeeMyWorldOnVideo site.
http://seemyworldonvideo.com/
But did not notice an audio conversion program for .aiff files. The “WM Converter” (also available in “Extras For Editors”), did appear to convert the Aiff files to Mp3, but still these converted files would not load to PD.

Then I found a free aiff -to- wma(mp3, wav, etc.), converter program by NCH Software.

The free version of this program (which is what I have been using), works flawlessly and is super simple to use. However, a pro version is also available for purchase.

Check them out. They might just come in handy the next time you find that you are in need of audio of an Elephant’s foot stepping on a Mouse’s tail, while a Norwegian marching band is performing next to the Marmoset exhibit, during an afternoon concert at the zoo, while a circa 1936 B-12 Bomber flies overhead through a thunder storm.

This will start to look like a page full of advertisements, but it may help someone, so I'll add a few sites for reference.

Another good sound effects resource page is http://www.stonewashed.net/sfx.html - it has links to many sites like the one Cranston mentioned.

If you're looking for music loops (handy for menus), there's a site where members can upload and download them at http://www.looperman.com/index.php

One of the simplest-to-use and versatile converters (for audio & video) I've come across is FormatFactory - http://www.formatoz.com/index.html

Cheers -

Tony
