I didn't see this post when I opened a new thread here

I have PD7 when I produce a video in PD7.2726 the image is squared off, it looks like (even though I chose 720x480 output that isn't what I'm getting) I took the same video to PD7.2519 and it comes out the way I expected it to. I have had the 2726 update for some time but this is the first time I have installed it. I double checked the settings for the two and I believe I had the options identical, so I'm not sure what I'm missing. I do notice that when I bring in a video to 2726 up at the top (in the screen) you can click on the vid and the space around the vid is greyed in. When you move the vid to the timeline, is when the size changes, there is now a black box around the video. See attached examples,

Update on this. I uninstalled the newer patch and installed the one that works on my other computer. Still the same problem. The settings seem to be identical, both computers have xp both have widescreen monitors (just as an aside) but when I pull the same video clip into the same program on two different computers I have the odd bands on my laptop.

Hi McLean -

I'm struggling to understand what you're saying, but I'm guessing it's an aspect ratio(n) issue.

If so, maybe this will help...

Still - it's just a bit of a stab in the dark.

Cheers -

The aspect ratio of the clips I'm using are all 4:3. The output is 4:3 and the dimensions are set at 720x480 in both cases. If you put the finished product back the timeline both videos (that you see pictures) the properties say that they are 720x480. Which is obviously not the case. One is square (almost) and the other isn't.

When I opened the aspect ratio screen (originally) in the one that looks odd, the Current Aspect Ratio showed at 4:30 and the setting said Detect aspect ratio automatically. When that wasn't looking right, I switched the setting to 4:3 (still didn't make a difference)

The one a redid on the older version was set exactly the same Current Ratio 4:3 and Detect automatically and it was fine. The problem I'm having now is that even uninstalling the newest patch hasn't solved my problem SO I will go back to the previous version of PD (which is what I was using up until a week or so ago and see if I can fix my problem. There is obviously a software issue here I'm assuming. Thank you for your help.

ETA I uninstalled PD 2726 and wiped the registry etc and reinstalled 1829 and solved my problem. SO it looks like I will have to wait until there is another patch and try that (after I'm done my current project) SO just an FYI for others that might be running into this problem.

can you set the background of your video player to something other than black?

that would make obvious any black bars included in your video file

I just went back to an older version of PD and it is fine. BUT for some reason the newer versions don't work for me. I went back to 1829 and that solved my problem.

are there black bars or not?

I could make the same happen by changing the zoom on videos in wmp.

The program was resizing the video, I have no clue why BUT when I went back to the old one it fixed the issue. There is a link up thread here showing how it looked.

I have fixed my problem. I just thought I would mention how I fixed it for now.
