I am currently using the trial version of PD 7 to see if I might want to buy it. Unfortunately, after I successfully imported a song file(WMA format) from Media Player, I was unable to import anymore songs. Can anyone help me?

Hi Debbi -

A bit more information would help... I'm a bit confused about what it is you actually did.

Did you import a WMA file into PD7? If so, I can see no reason why you wouldn't be able to import more. That seems very odd.

What's Media Player got to do with it?

I just opened PD7 and imported a folder of 6 wma files, threw them on the timeline and they played just fine. Then I ditched it 'cos I was only wanting to see if I could get what you're having!

Sorry - I can't think of an explanation yet.

Cheers -

Tony

What I did was import a song file from my song list(which was in Media Player) to the PD 7 library. I had no problem doing it. But when I did the exact same thing again(import anther song into the PD 7 library), I got the error message, and have been getting it ever since. Do you think it may be due to the fact that it's a trial version? Maybe there's a limitation as to how many WMA files I can import? Sounds silly, but just a thought. Thank you for your reply.

Debbi -

I am still unsure of how you imported a file into PD7 FROM Windows Media Player.

Media Player files (the library) are kept in...

Cdrive\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player

When I imported multiple files, I did it from the source files (in my case, iTunes - but that makes no difference).

Try this:

1. Open PD7
2. Click on Import Files
3. Navigate to your WMP library...
Cdrive\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
4. Select file to import.
5. There it is in your library in PD7.
6. Now repeat steps 1-5, selecting different songs.

It really shouldn't be a problem doing it that way.

Though I don't have a trial version, I am certain that's not a limitation. You're right - it did sound silly.

Cheers -

Whoops! Sorry Debbi - barking up the wrong tree again!

The WMP Library does not store the ACTUAL files - only links to them.

To locate the file on your PC, right ckick on the file - go to Open File Location... that shows you the folder from which you import files into PD7.

Once you know where the folder is/files are stored, you should be right.

Sorry about my senior moment.

Hi Debbi,

As this was once a source of confusion for me as well, I just wanted to agree with, and echo, what Tony said.
The media player library is basically just a list, and (in older versions anyway), even if you deleted or moved the actual file of song (usually within... Start > My Music), the song’s name would still appear in the media player library until you deleted it's entry in the media player library as well. You can see the title, but when you try to export, there’s nothing there to export, or play.
So don’t use the MP library as the source from which you import your songs to PD7. Import the actual file itself (again, they are usually located in “My Music”).

There different methods of locating the actual file that displays in the MP library, depending on which version of MP you are using. Here are 2 other version specific methods, in addition to what Tony gave you.
1) - Right click on song in library > “open containing folder” (it will take you to the file)
2) - Right click on song in library > “properties” (it will show you the files’ location)

If you plan to regularly import music to PD7, it is very advisable that you start and get used to organizing your music files in folders where you can easily locate them (I prefer ‘My Music”), so you don’t have spend your time searching and searching for a song or sound effect, right when you’re in the middle of editing your master piece.

Good Luck!

Hi Deb
Go into Windows Media player under "RIP">"More Option" >"Rip Music"

Uncheck "Copy Protect Music"

Before importing to the library.....Always make sure the ripped file has not been copy protected.

I'm pleased you sorted it out with Kent's tip...

Reminds me of a saying... If you're not confused, you've misunderstood the question.

Eh - c'est la vie, n'est-ce pas?
