Endless Update cycle and now can no longer playback anything

Upon inserting a new BD, my PowerDVD 12 prompted me that a "periodic update" is required. I believe it stated something about "AASC". Clicked yes, stated successful completion. Only to be prompted again forever. Clicking no isn't an option since the movie will not play.
So I thought, perhaps there is a SW update. And indeed there was an update available for 12 in the update menu. So, I completed the update. But the problem did not go away.
So, I thought the issue might be the particular BD 1 title. Changed to one I played just before. With this title I got an error that the file is corrupt

After soem more testing:
1.) any movie after applying the update will generate the followign error: "cyberlink powerdvd cannot play this content because it is corrupted"
2.) The AACS loop happens with one movie title
