CyberLink is aware of several customers who have unknowingly purchased counterfeit versions of popular CyberLink software, after buying from third parties through marketplace avenues or classified ads on well-known auction sites. Only after they had purchased the software did they realize that the product key they received, which is required for activation, was invalid.
Counterfeiting not only impacts customers by potentially giving them an unusable product, but it can also lead to a damaged computer and relationship with CyberLink. Quite often counterfeit software is embedded with malware components designed to steal personal and other information. In these cases, CyberLink cannot be held responsible for the damaged caused by counterfeit software, or the loss of funds for an unusable product.
CyberLink is continually taking new steps to combat the counterfeit software issue, but we also require you to do your part. We advise all customers shopping for CyberLink software to consider the following tips before purchasing:
• Ensure the reseller has a well-documented history of selling CyberLink software and a clearly defined return/refund policy. A good start is to check this list of certified regional online resellers: https://www.cyberlink.com/stat/regional-stores/enu/index.jsp
• Be particularly wary when purchasing from auction sites like eBay, where the vast majority of counterfeit software is distributed. These are second hand licenses, where resellers purchase software from CyberLink and then re-sell on web sites. The same product key is repeatedly sold to unknowing users.
• Check the CyberLink.com Store to review the current pricing for the item you intend to buy. If the price being offered elsewhere seems “too good to be true”, it probably is.
• If you have any doubts about a reseller, you can contact CyberLink Customer Service before buying to confirm whether the licenses sold on a particular website are genuine.
You can also do your part by reporting any suspected counterfeiting of CyberLink software instances to us. We will do our utmost to trace the parties responsible and prevent further infringement.
