I just discovered that the installation of Videostudio 2018 (VS) prevents Cyberlink's Powerdirector 16 (and 15) from loading. Briefly: after reinstalling Windows 10 because of this problem, I reinstalled Powerdirector 16 (PD) and all was well. I then installed VS 2018 and before even running it, I tried to open PD and it would not load again. I then un-installed VS2018 and PD started again.

So, if anyone has faced this dilemma please let me know how you took care of the problem, if you were able.

Also, if you any suggestions how I can have both peacefully coexist, please post suggestions.

BTW (I just notified Cyberlink of the problem).

A response from another user at the VideoStudio forum:

mmm, well this might explain my issue too.
I have PD15 on my system and at some point it stopped working....apparently AFTER I installed VS2018!

When I launch PD15 it displays the PD splash screen and then an empty ! warning box with an OK button.
This is followd by the PD15 has stopped working box asking you to report the problem or not.

Is that what you get?

I would have reported this during the beta period but I THOUGHT it was Cyberlink somehow checking for multiple installs upon program launch.

I replied exactly! I have also asked who he beta tested with so he can report this issue to them.

Corel have investigated this issue and have determined that the problem is with PowerDirector not VS 2018 and are waiting to see what action CyberLink are going to take to correct whatever is causing the conflict.
Would the forum moderator please ensure that CyberLink are activily searching for a solution, as many forum members have both programs installed and would like to be able to use both, otherwise it will be necessary to remove one of the programs and CyberLink is the likely candidate Intel i7 930, 16GB ram, Radeon HD 5770 1Gb,Ver. 14.12 Win7 64 bit

For those of us who cannot load PD now, how will we find out about CL's findings?
Thanks

Maybe, just maybe I discovered a 'fix' for this problem.
I installed Videostudio 2018 FIRST, and then Power Director 16 after. It seems to have worked for me.
Note: I had just done a reset of Windows 10 so maybe that had something to do with it, but as of this post both programs are loading and working.

Solution from Cyberlink:
With reference to your query, after investigating, the issue also happens when using software developing tool “Graph Editor” without PowerDirector installed. To avoid the error of Corel Video Studio Ultimate 2018 affects PowerDirector users, we have found a solution to workaround the issue. The solution would be implemented in the next patch.

It is suggested to follow the steps below to replace the module manually as the temp solution.

1. Depend on your OS version, download the file CLDVinf.ax from one of the links below. If your Windows is 64bit version, download the 64bit version module. If your Windows is 32bit version, download the 32bit version module. Extract the downloaded file CLDVinf.zip, you can find the module CLDVinf.ax.

64bit: http://download.cyberlink.com/ftpdload/ ... LDVinf.zip
32bit: http://download.cyberlink.com/ftpdload/ ... LDVinf.zip

2. Browse the below folder on your PC

Crogram Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector16\runtime\recordingPack

3. Find the file CLDVinf.ax in the folder and rename the file as the backup.
4. Copy the downloaded CLDVinf.ax to the same folder.
5. Launch PowerDirector to check again.

Thank you for this fix. It also works for PD15 running under win7. I just tried it.

The URLs are not complete.
If you hover over the URLs, you can see that the URLs for 32bit and 64bit are exactly the same.
They both link to "http://download.cyberlink.com/ftpdload/" and there we don't have the right to access.
