I just bought the upgrade, but it won't install. I am getting the attached error dialog.

For the record, PowerDirector 15 is installed and working just fine. Any ideas?

We are not Cyberlink Support, we are just users.

Take a look in Control Panel > Programs and features, to see if Powerdirector 15 is listed there.
You also may have registry problems.

One thing you can try, is to reinstall Powerdirector 15 from the original Installation Files/Media. Then try installing your PD 16 Upgrade.

I would temporarily disable your malware scanner, during installing PD 16. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

I understand that this is a user forum. With that said, I've been waiting for a response from CyberLink Support for three days, so it seems that "official" support is not a viable option. I was finally able to find a phone number, and after many tries, I finally got through, so I thought I would share what I was told with the forum members.

For what it’s worth, I followed a link from within PD15 to the upgrade page and selected the default upgrade option. What the support guy told me was that the upgrade I “chose” would not work as an upgrade for my version. I have Ultimate, and the default upgrade was Ultra, so that’s what I got without making any conscious decision. Support person was not willing/able to do anything to help me other than to give me a phone number that I could call to request a refund.

I requested the refund and then went and bought the “correct” upgrade. Their server is slow, so an hour later, I’m still downloading it. Once I have all of the files (and there are many) I will burn them to DVDs, since I learned the hard way that my downloads will not be available to me if I should need them at a later date. I already did all of this with the “incorrect” version, so much time has been wasted.

If anyone should happen to read this BEFORE attempting to install an upgrade, my advice would be to take great care to buy exactly the same version as you already have. In retrospect, it might make more sense to just buy the full version, since one only saves something like $10 by going the upgrade route. If time is worth anything, that $10 may turn out to be a lot less expensive than a non-functional upgrade. --

Cyberlink does not make it simple to buy the version you want. They could surely make it easier by getting rid of all the re-directs.
Burning the files to a DVD is the right idea for backup.
What I also did was to save the download page in my CL downloads directory.
Enjoy. .

There are a lot of things CyberLink could do to honor their customers. Like making upgrades less expensive than full versions. And responding to support tickets. Or just eliminating the dreadful ticket system altogether to make more time for real-time interactive help. I think it would save them time in the long run...It certainly would save me time.

And I wonder why in the world they don't come up with some presets that conform to YouTube's specs. I mean, they've had 16 full versions to get it right...how hard can it be? Their default container for direct export to YouTube is MKV, whereas YouTube wants MP4. It is possible to manually create a preset that uses MP4, but even then it is not possible to set all of the parameters the way YouTube wants them. For example, apparently CyberLink does not put the moov atom at the beginning of the file, which results in longer processing times on YouTube. There are some free rendering softwares that respect this basic requirement, so it's not like it’s economically impossible.

But I digress. It’s just frustrating that they keep adding features, but never fix the long-standing issues. PowerDirector has lots of 360 features now, but it still can’t render a file that YouTube likes. Which seems odd, considering how many videos are destined for YouTube. --
