How do I save detected scenes as separate clips?

I have a long video file and can detect its scenes. They appear OK in the media library in a sub-folder under the original video. I now want to save those detected scenes as separate clips, so I can manage them and use them in other projects, without their original long video file. I do not see how to do this.

I know I can add them to the timeline. I suppose I could 'produce' a video of each clip and then import each produced video, but this seems crude.

Can you help with an easier way?

It's not that crude, but if you want to save each clip as a separate file you can use "produce range". Put the timeline scrubber at the start of the clip, drag the little orange square to the end of the clip. If you do that, "Produce Range" will appear above the timeline.

When the range is produced it will go immediately to the Media Library.

Here is a tutorial on the procedure the shadowman wrote about.
