I produced my first video today using PD15. I selected the YouTube option and also selected the option to upload the timeline to Director Zone. The result in both DZ and UTube was a split screen containing two instances of my video side by side??? How did this happen? What did I do wrong?

Could you provide links to your YouTube and/or Director Zone videos and/or a screenshot of your timeline in PowerDirector? That should help unless it's some sort of a hardware configuration issue…
